Re: nihao..

I am going to China (beijing, shanghai, guangzhou) for 3 weeks. I wanted to ask if someone from here could tell me about any good places to buy video game stuff. NES clones or maybe any backup stations for snes or other consoles.. I guess guangzhou will be best for this kind of stuff? Hope I'm not to...

Looks interesting. I'd like to get something a bit more modern as well, as I would like to visit, and I prefer to be more culturally adept if possible :) Yeah. I started reading it after I'd been in China a total of about a year and a half, so it did a good job of filling in things I was wondering ...

Seriously though, I'd like to go if I ever get around to learning Mandarin. I'm dying to see the new Condor Heroes remakes, but sadly I can't understand any of them. I recommand the 1983 TVB version of Condor Heroes, it is widely considered as the most classic version. But I am afraid that foreigne...

Try not to worry too much about the words people use. Many of us also call all tissue paper "Kleenex" even if it's a different brand. Strange things happen in language sometimes. It's human nature. If we try to force ourselves to use different words, it feels unnatural and we laugh. Many o...

Re: dd routines interface

This response isn't specific to emulation, since I haven't written an emulator. Anyway.. A putpixel routine is a nice thing to have if you're learning graphics programming and you want to play around with it.. but it's basically never efficient in practice. When you've got to redraw the whole surfac...

Now that there's a Chinese area, perhaps we can try to help make some of the information here more accessible to the new Chinese users. So the first thing I wanted to do was skim through the wiki and post a bit of the essential information in Chinese. That's when I got reminded that I can't access h...

Re: English

By the way, are all Chinese written languages the same or do we need Cantonese, Mandarin and Peking Chinese forums? Yes. Edit: Yes, as in, they are the same. Well.. This could use some clarification because both 'yes' or 'no' would be misleading. In writing, there are Simplified Chinese characters ...

You make some good points against opening up a Chinese forum and/or opening up forums for different languages. Someone mentioned that Chinese and Japanese are cooler. Personally I think that's a significant distinguishment worthy of consideration. 加油!:) (well, I'm both biased and not particularly co...

Re: 我是中国人

...where can we speak Chinese? Hmph well, China for a start... Ah. I'm there/here right now actually. My phrasing was pretty lame because I wrote it in Chinese and then gave a reasonably faithful English translation from it. There's chance to speak Chinese in the real world of course, but for me, t...

English: Everyone here uses just English or Japanese (the place wherein you can write Japanese is "FCDev"). But there...

Thinking about it more, I think a different language could help a lot. What language in particular do you have in mind? I'm not thinking of any particular language, rather just being kind of optimistic for the sake of not ruling it out. I don't want to go too far off the topic of emulation, but I'l...

I imagine the best chance at a solution is in a different programming language which has this in mind, but then I suppose that even if such a language exists, the compilers currently available are bound to be slow. That's exactly it. This could be done in c++ too, using save states. You either impl...

The problem with byuu's system (ignoring that it's for the SNES) is a limitation of the emulator implementation. I should have said that this is an inherent limitation of a design using multiple threads, not just a problem with byuu's implementation. Even though a solution isn't immediately obvious...

You'd made it sound like it wouldn't be possible to avoid savestate versioning issues.. but since the NES is static, it's more a matter of how practical it is. This isn't related to the NES. The reason you can't use savestates with cooperative multithreading is because you can't save the stack + co...

Confucius says.. Platforms and emulators may come and go, but the NES will never change 8) Uhh... what? Sorry about that. You'd made it sound like it wouldn't be possible to avoid savestate versioning issues.. but since the NES is static, it's more a matter of how practical it is. My thought was th...
