What is FT's mixing based off of?
The mixing in FT is based on rainwarrior's NSFplay at the moment since I haven't done my own measurements yet.

Re: Hardware Recordings with S5B Chip

@also rainwarrior: It's too bad TNS-HFX4 doesn't take 2a03 mixing for YMZ/5B into consideration, which is what you were mentioning earlier which makes 5B's sound subtly unique (compared to YMZ294) right? Maybe copyNES is the best solution afterall... I think you can safely ignore that difference, t...

Re: Hardware Recordings with S5B Chip

Is it possible then to do it with something like this? applesource These directions say that this schematic renders the cartridge compatible with the TNS-HFC3. I definitely wouldn't want to tamper with the actual Gimmick cart, maybe I can try my luck at finding a 5B in some cheaper Sunsoft cartridg...

Re: Hardware Recordings with S5B Chip

I can verify that the HFX4 board doesn't support the Gimmick cart. You'll have to get the YMZ294 chip or add wires from that socket to the cart.

Yeah those works fine, I've uploaded the result here:

Anitra's Dance
Danse Macabre

But I kind of had ripped game OSTs in mind, as I assume that was the purpose of this thread. Contact me in private if you want recordings of more original music.

Re: Soundtracks recorded with real hardware?

I'm more interested in hardware recordings for expansion audio, especially FDS. With that said, how much  do I have to pay for someone to do this for me / build me one? I can provide recordings from a TNS-HFC cart, with any type of expansion audio. I don't know how well it's compatible...

Re: FDS modulator formula revision

I tested it on a higher frequency and yeah it looks more similar to rainwarrior's now.

Anyway it's a minor issue I guess, but it is audible on waves with low number of harmonics. NEZplug++ actually emulates this and the output is very similar to the measured ones.

Re: FDS modulator formula revision

The other funny thing I forgot to mention, probably not worth emulating, but also the DAC in my FDS is clearly less than ideal. Check out this 0-63 saw wave: This is actually one thing I wanted to investigate, because the DAC is a lot less linear in my unit: http://79.138.112.171/tmp/wave.png And t...

I suspect it would be faster to write a new tracker from scratch, but I haven't used Qt before so it might be interesting to give it a try. :)

So, where can I find this IRC channel?

The easiest way would probably be to isolate the interface classes, then only a compiler that can compile DLL files is needed (no MFC or SDKs). Another thing I just tried was to manually declare all things needed by the internal header files and that appeared to work as well, this could be included ...

It's hard to tell why it's not working, but make sure the addresses are correct and that the files fit within the banks. If it's single song NSFs then SongNumber must be 0 for all songs. I'd also like to point out that you'll waste some space by including three different NSFs since they can share th...

What happens when you push RESET on your Famicom? EDIT: Argh, too much caffeine! On the Famicom, the PPU reset is tied to VCC, while the NES resets the PPU! Nevertheless, it might be related to this problem. If you mean it would affect $2004 on the famicom, then I don't see the connection. Making t...

I tested oam_read on a PAL NES and famicom and got the following results: PAL NES Most of the reads on lines 3-8 always failed, it never passed completely. The errors started from midway on line 3 and ended on beginning of line 8, and all other lines passed without errors. The exact patterns on thes...
