Re: rca composite out to s-video in: a guide.

You can't use composite/s-video adapters on the market, because they're designed to combine two separate channels into one (which is the more common case i guess), not separate one channel into two. To the best of my knowledge, the passive s-video to composite converters are the same circuit as you...

Re: Rikki & Vikki (Atari 7800)

There's something so pleasing about seeing an old "8-bit" system like this push lots of large objects without sprite dropout everywhere; it reminds me a lot of newer "retro-style" games, except this one actually runs on period hardware. Were the large spaces of solid black in the background actuall...

Re: Rikki & Vikki (Atari 7800)

I don't have access to the TIA, so the music is all the synth. TIA handles all sound effects, with a couple special exceptions.

This project made me more interested in composing TIA music though, so I made some tracks:

TIATune

Mega Man II (GB) Title

Kraid's Lair

Rikki & Vikki (Atari 7800)

I was the composer for an upcoming Atari 7800 / Windows game if you're interested. Below is the original post from Atari Age. ***The game has been released on Steam ! *** Get the soundtrack here! --------------- http://www.penguinet.net/Games/Rikki_Vikki/Resources/RnV_Marquee_512x208.png An unexpect...

Re: Does everyone still use Winamp for VGM?

I mostly use WinAmp (2.95) + NotSoFatso. If that can't play something (non-60hz or certain expansions) then I use NSFPlay. I'm on Windows 10.

Re: How to properly calculate sampled duty cycles for the DP

When I tried making melodic waves on the DPCM channel I just resorted to medium-length triangle recordings that I then looped using Y commands.

Re: Getting the best-sounding samples

Another thing to watch out for is where the delta counter is during your sample's playback. If your sample isn't loud enough to reset the "midpoint" of the sample, this can be a thing (and even if it IS loud enough, you can tilt the data toward zero with RJDMC and FamiTracker).

Re: Methods for managing a large FT project file?

Short of making a new ftm for each track, you could just separate out the ones that you know won't be in the final product, or you could just split the soundtrack into however many files, 2, 3, 4, etc. Just make a copy of the file, then open the copy and delete all the tracks you want to keep, then ...

Re: Making MML editing more practical

I used MCK/PPMCK's implementation of MML for years and even made C++ programs for it as preprocessors to add features. I got really good/efficient at making music this way, and I was highly resistant to switching to FamiTracker, seeing it as a lot of hassle to switch to an unfamiliar composition met...

Re: nsf player for iOS

I switched to android about a year ago and the only thing I really miss from iOS is having Modizer on my phone. You can search any one of the libraries for music files (like HVSC, ASMA, etc) for whatever format and their selection does have most game soundtracks, and a good amount of scene music too...

Re: Instruments vs. effects?

I tend to use a mixture of effects and instruments. Like others have said, some effects are difficult to do with just instruments (like portamento) and some are just tedious (making a new vibrato macro for every few notes depending on pitch, making new instruments for every voice/duty cycle change, ...
