Re: Mesen-S - SNES Emulator

Is this emulator also a standalone GB emulator? I've tried loading GB games, but they aren't recognized and I can't seem to find anything in the documentation that sheds light on the subject.

Re: Expanding MMC1 from 256kb to 512kb

Yes, I already know all that. I've decided to return to my first idea and try to isolate what's going wrong. It seems my hack fails whenever there's an interrupt and one of the writes to the registers resets the PRG block. So, I'm thinking there's some sort of conflict which perplexes me because I'm...

Expanding MMC1 from 256kb to 512kb

So, I'm translating a Famicom game that was originally a 256kb MMC1 game and I've expanded it to 512kb to whatever the variant is that swaps 256kb PRG blocks. So, I initially switched blocks whenever the pointer table read is past a certain value and then switch back out when the text is done being ...

Re: Mesen - NES Emulator

I also include xdelta patches with my translations and I don't think that has the same issue as BPS, but I shall look at my ROM again.

Re: Mesen - NES Emulator

So broken it took 30 seconds to fix... Although I know some of you guys get up in arms when a ROM is expanded past mapper limitations. It happens that this project was inherited from someone else years ago along with the ROM expansion. Anyhow it's been so long, it's not worth the effort of scraping ...

Re: Hacking text beeps

The game is Metal Slader Glory for those that are curious. I'm working on an update to my translation for it. Each character has their own unique text beeps for the most part and their own text speeds. All this is stored with the speaker name. Clearly I can see there is some correlation between the ...

Re: Hacking text beeps

When you say the init function, are you talking about the APU register $4015?

Hacking text beeps

So I've never really done any sound hacking on the NES before and there's a text adventure game I want to increase the text speed (I know how to do that already) and reduce the amount of beeps per letter. Any help to get me pointed in the right direction would be appreciated. I've been looking at th...

Re: Possible vblank issue with text getting written to scree

Incidentally, I looked at the US release and noticed that the issue with longer text isn't an issue for that ROM. I think they made some coding improvements between releases and that might give me what I need to figure this out.

Re: Possible vblank issue with text getting written to scree

Well, there's actually an obscure sequel to the game that I want to translate at some point. So I figured I might as well do this one for the heck of it. IIRC, the official translation stripped the game of its Japanese-ness a bit.

Possible vblank issue with text getting written to screen

So, I'm translating this simple game and it's pretty much finished, but there's an issue with longer text printing to the screen. I think I know what the issue is, but was hoping to get a second opinion. Anyhow, I've debugged the game a bit and was able to determine that it's not an issue with the g...

Re: Megami Tensei NES translation reproduction

I don't know how I missed this thread, but reading through it has certainly bemused me. I'm the hacker and the game plus the translation are a real mess. It's a real horror show and converting that game plus translation to another mapper sounds like a nightmare. I say who cares the ROM was expanded ...

To be or not to be FDS headers

So, I was just curious as to why there's an extra 10 bytes with FDS at the beginning of an FDS image? I've seen it with and without and it looks mostly useless when present.

Re: Disassembling NES ROM, What Disassembler to Use?

I'm quite experienced with NES hacking, 6502 etc. I have a fairly deep knowledge base of the NES hardware as it pertains to translating a game and I pride myself on being able to reverse engineer parts of the game I'm translating and making it bow to my will. I do consider myself more of an ASM hack...
