Early stages of GB emu, trying to understand its interrupts

Hi, I'm working on a GB emulator. I'm trying to understand its interrupt behavior. I'm testing with a simple ROM-only game, Alleyway. It appears to be doing some initialization, then tries to write a 1 to 0xFF0F. This means it's trying to trigger a VBlank interrupt manually. HOWEVER, it never seems ...

Re: Failure messages in emulator tests

I am very considerate of peoples' feelings in my interactions, but I also think there comes a point where you can't just have an entire society walking around on eggshells because 0.01% of people might be slightly upset about what a test ROM displays? I shouldn't have even said anything, but this wh...

Re: Failure messages in emulator tests

That message is obviously a tongue-in-cheek joke. If somebody takes it so personally that it cripples them emotionally, I don't know what to say.

Why has everybody gotten so sensitive over the last 10 years or so?

Re: 3DNes

My thoughts are the same as rainwarrior's. No problem with the idea whatsoever, but the price is much higher than I'd be willing to pay for something like this. I'd have seriously considered pulling out the credit card at $10-$15. Have you considered a time-limited demo version? Maybe something tha...

Re: Glitchy background in TMNT 2

I suppose reviewing my bank switching code closely is a good start.

Re: Glitchy background in TMNT 2

Well I'm decrementing the counter on any PPU read where the address line transitions from low to high on bit 12 then doing the IRQ when it wraps around. I can't think of any other MMC3 games that don't look right in it.

Don't think there's anything wrong with the ROM, it works fine in any other emulator.

Glitchy background in TMNT 2

I searched for this, but couldn't seem to find anything related to my issue. Maybe I didn't look hard enough. I've had this glitchy BG in TMNT 2 on my emulator forever, and I've never been able to determine the cause. Has anybody else run into this before? Maybe in an early stage in your own emulato...

Re: What am I doing wrong with my sweeps?

I'm not particularly fond of Java either, lol. Took a few classes for it in college. It's good for easy cross-platform compatibility. Anyway, I got the sweeps more or less working. Still some bugs, but I'll work them out. Thanks Disch! Here is an mp3 of me playing through the SMB world 1-1: http://p...

Re: What am I doing wrong with my sweeps?

Agreed VB is terrible, especially for emulators. VB6 I'm inclined to agree. But what makes VB.NET particularly more "terrible" than C#? I thought the "Visual Fred" camp said VB.NET was C# semantics with different syntax. Nothing makes it worse than C#, you're right. When I say VB I only refer to VB...

Re: What am I doing wrong with my sweeps?

VB is barf and I have a hard time reading it.... so I might be misreading some of this... but from what I can see: 1) If (square(chan).sweep > 0) Then square(chan).sweep = square(chan).sweep - 1 If ((square(chan).sweepenable <> 0) And (square(chan).sweep > 0)) Then That 2nd line looks like it is ha...

Re: Mesen - NES Emulator

This how it looked when it hung on Battletoads for me:

Image

It happened when I moved all the way to the top of the screen. Doesn't necessarily mean it's related, but that's when it did this in any case. The game ran perfectly until this point.

Re: Mesen - NES Emulator

This is an excellent emulator! Tons of features. Sound is great. It handled everything I threw at it, except for one little bug I found (which you're likely already aware of)... got a hang in Battletoads on the second level.

I've been comparing, but I'm still having no luck. I've got to be missing something.
