Re: Games that used the window for special effects?

Huh, interesting. I must admit that I never really looked at it closely. I just thought "that is using the window". Sorry, I guess i was wrong. Nonetheless I still think this game is very impressive!

Chikyuu Kaihou Gun I think is a very interesting example in that it actually uses two background layers scrolling at different speeds.
The effect really shows in later levels I think.

Re: GB-Z80 assembly using ca65 is ready

Interesting! Am I understanding correctly? You use ca65 to create GB-Z80 code? Or do you use it to convert GB-Z80 code to 6502 code? (the latter doesn't really make sense to me, since I can't imagine that code actually functioning as it should, but maybe I am just not getting the idea)

Re: Worst video game music ever?

I would nominate this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GflY6rsGTu8 But honestly I never played this game. In fact I can't think of any game I played of the top of my head which had absolutely terrible music. I think I would remember if there was one. I do remember many with really repetitive music th...

The description of the video says that you need a 2 channel oszilloscope. The wave file is stereo, so it does actually use both channels to do these effects. I think this is also what Dwedit meant.

50$ for a Tektronix Phillips scope with digital storage...you don't know how jealous I am right now ;3 No, seriously: Great find! These go for at least 100-200€ around here, because you just don't see them that often. If I wanted to get a cheap one I'd have to go with a russian one. Not that there i...

Re: Who has an NES and an Apple II monitor?

I use my NES on a Commodore 1802 which has the knob you are talking about. It definitely does make the overscan are visible. (At least if I understand it correctly) Unfortunately I do not currently have the option to run test roms, sorry :C

Re: Recommended NES Assembler and/or Compiler

I completely agree with rainwarrior. I started out with NESASM, but quickly changed to CA65. CA65 can be really difficult or confusing at first, but I got used to it very quickly. And while it seems like it is only useful for bigger projects, I never had any trouble using it for smaller ones. In fac...

There is a convention like this in Germany?
Can you explain what convention you were talking about?

Re: Use of parallel ports in NES/PC interfaces

The reason why I reacted so was because of my last attempt at using a parallel port to communicate with the Commodore-64 disk drive to test my programs developed on my PC on my C64. This ended up being a complete waste of time because nothing worked at all and all transfer programs were dating from...

Re: Universal background color

I just wanted to say that I found this thread really helpful! I've been struggling to understand how the PPU registers work and I think I finally start to get it. I think I just didn't understand that the PPU uses the same registers for multiple tasks and I was confused by the names that loopy used ...

That sounds very interesting!
I've been trying to get into Gameboy stuff for a while and this will probably help me pick that up again :3
Will follow your projects for sure!

I was wondering...will you upload any parts of the code you wrote for your projects or will you just provide the roms?

Re: HW mod to remove the 8 sprites per scanline limitation

I'm not sure, but I think my Commodore 1802 CRT monitor has the problem that you brought up, koitsu. The picture is slightly tilted and when I adjust the V-Height knob to reduce the amount of overscan , I can sometimes see some wrong colors on the top of the picture. I think it depends on the color ...
