Re: Current state of programmable logic

For low cost FPGAs, Efinix has some interesting offerings too. https://www.efinixinc.com/products-trion.html Thanks pointing these out Loopy! I hadn’t heard of Efinix before, they do have some pretty interesting offerings. Unfortunate that the smallest non-BGA component is QFP-144, would be awesome...

Re: Current state of programmable logic

Making me feel old with a prompt reply to an old [EDIT: beloved] thread. But many thanks for sharing. :) I'm curious, are these the same CPLD/FPGA devices with the OTP configuration rom? I recall seeing these recently but the OTP was enough to scare me off initially. Mayhaps it wouldn't be as big of...

Re: Action53 cartridge earnings and expenses

I drafted this finances update in Dec 2020 but between delays on my end, and forums going down it's been stuck as a draft in my emails with NEShomebrew for the past year. I'm posting this today as-is, but keep in mind it wasn't written today, it's from the perspective of Dec 2020. I'll make a new po...

Re: Current state of programmable logic

They also announced EOL on LC4000V series, RIP 5v tolerant modern CPLDs Source? I haven't been able to find any information about this on their web page. And they're still recommending the 4000V series as a replacement for some other more mature parts. Mouser only mentions EOL for the non-ROHS 48-p...

Re: Current state of programmable logic

Other thing to consider is modern clones like the AVS, I’m only guessing but I’d expect it’s driving 5v CMOS levels on all signals? In any event ~$1 is a pretty decent price. FWIW I’ve mostly moved on to Gowin little bee devices over the past year (GW1N 1152LUTs in TQFP-100) since lattice announced ...

Re: Adding features to discrete mapper with multipurposed CIC

Well before taking next steps, I decided to go ahead and investigate why my current implementation wasn't working on some clones including retronHD & AVS. Couple different things make executing from mainboard SRAM difficult or impossible depending on the system. Just wanted to share my findings ...

Re: Adding features to discrete mapper with multipurposed CIC

Realized earlier last month was official 3year anniversary of this thread/idea and thought would be good time to give an update on my recent progress over past couple months. I never forgot about this whole idea, but without adequate motivation it ended up mostly falling off the back burner... My re...

Re: uc65, a Mid-Level Language Compiler READY FOR USE!

For what it's worth, to my knowledge, I'm the only one who actually used it. And I have no plans to use it in the future, I think it's safe to say the project/language is dead at the moment.

Re: SNES NPN transistor battery circuit necessary?

ISSI, Cypress, and Alliance all have and assortment of 256Kbit low power SRAMs available for close to $1each. Something like IS62C256AL for example. If you upgrade to the 1Mbit versions you also gain a CE pin which you can simply connect to /RESET (IS62C1024AL for example). Honestly, so long as the ...

Re: RAM watching on a real NES?

Another idea would be to use the expansion port, but unfortunately it doesn't have the necessary signals. It has the data bus, but only A15 of the address bus. So you'd need a GameGenie-like device to pass more information via the EXP pins, but that kind of defeats the point of using the expansion ...

Re: Action 53 volume 4

Thanks for keeping up on this! I take it we're safe to assume that the rom will be 1MByte at this point.? Looks like it's ~90% full just glancing at the rom binary. So I'll go ahead and have a batch of boards baked off so they'll be ready once the rom is finalized. I don't mean to put pressure on th...

Awesome music. What is the track?
I borrowed the audio, tileset, and much of the project structure from NES-starter-kit, the audio is by Wolfgang.

Re: Portland Retro Game Expo

Portland was a great time, fun to meet people for the first time and showcase some of the work being done by so many people in the community. We're looking forward to making the trip more regularly in the future. I was pretty happy with how the panels went. Was surprised to learn the majority of peo...

Re: Mega SG: Kevtris returns with its own take on the Sega G

Does anybody know why the NES one costs so much? The newer models are made of plastic. The real question is why they don't release it with a plastic case and start selling them again. They claimed to be too busy to focus on re-releasing the NES version while they were releasing the SNES. But they h...

Re: Portland Retro Game Expo

My small booth will be in the back corner #508 (see pic), looking forward to meeting everyone from the community that's attending! Both of my talks are the first talks of the day in Auditorium B: 10:30am Sat, 11am Sun. I'm not bringing much for product, just want to have a booth as a home base and s...
