Re: Arcade Board Homebrew Development?

I've always wanted to do something with Outrun/Afterburner/SpaceHarrier hardware, but don't have the necessary skill set to do it.

There's http://shmuplations.com/games/

It has a lot of translated developer interviews.

Re: Mystic Searches / The New 8-bit Heroes

Two interlinked games, tutorials and a documentary with the project lead taking on programming and film producing? All in a year? Did I understand that right? It's simply too ambitious. Too many KS projects have failed where they were only trying to do one of those things. They don't need to do so m...

disassembled NES/SNES shmups?

Has anybody ever spent time trying to disassemble and figure out the inner workings of shmups for NES? Like Gradius or Lifeforce. Or even SNES/Genesis/arcade shmups. I'm curious as to how they packed level data and enemy placements and how object management was done.

thanks!

Building optimized metasprite from image?

Hi, I have many large sprites that I want to break down into individual hardware sprites, maximizing sprite coverage while minimizing the number of used sprites. I'm doing it manually but I wonder if there's a tool that can do it automatically. There probably isn't one, but I figured I'd ask :) Assu...

I asked a similar question a while ago, so this thread might be useful to you.

Re: SNES plugged through S-Video has "shaky" image

The problem seems to be intermittent. I'd say about 3/4 the time it's fine. Would the possible explanations in the two previous posts still be valid?

SNES plugged through S-Video has "shaky" image

Hi there, I have an SNES hooked up to my LCD TV through S-Video. Lately I've noticed that on some games, the whole screen kinda shakes or vibrates when certain sprites or objects are moving. Say in Gradius III's weapon selection screen, it will occur if I change which weapon set I use by going up or...

Re: Palette tools?

For part two, (unifying palettes) ASEPRITE may do that if I'm understanding correctly. Open the indexed image whose palette you want the other image to use with ASEPRITE. Open the second image with ASEPRITE. Go to sprite, color mode, RGB color. Then copy it. Paste into the first image's tab. ASEPRI...

In tiled format? I'm not sure what that means.

Doesn't YY-CHR work with the data inside roms?

In my case, I'm working with bitmaps that get converted to binary when my game gets built.

Palette tools?

Hi! Are there any tools available that would let me reorder the colors of an image's palette without affecting the image itself? Contrived simplified example: changing the palette of an image from [blue][red][green][yellow] to [yellow][green][red][blue] and still keep the image looking the same. For...

Re: Goplanes

I wanted to mess around with HuC for PC Engine this morning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3O04hRwk6Ik It doesn't mean anything other than it scratched an itch I had recently. I'm not making games for PCEngine yet :) I wouldn't mind attempting to port Goplanes to it, though. But from what I gather ...

Re: Goplanes

Some of the tiles are screwed up because I probably didn't use PyxelEdit correctly. It can remove duplicate tiles, including ones that are rotated but that doesn't work on Genesis hardware, which only does horizontal and vertical flipping of tiles. Oooh. I hadn't yet encountered, (or thought of) th...

Re: Tool that breaks up bitmap, removes duplicate tiles, etc

I think I can make one! The idea: 1 convert bitmap to 64 colors 2 convert bitmap to chr 3 removes duplicates(chr) 4 make nametable(pal...) from bitmap and chr Is it right? I was looking for more of a generalized tool since I'm not working on NES at the moment. It wouldn't need to be platform specif...
