Re: kindred (emulator)

I've just added Pocket Challenge W to the list of systems now emulated by kindred. I think this is the first? Please correct me if I am wrong. It's listed in MAME, but they're marked supported=no, so this may well be a first. Very impressive to emulate a TLCS-90 for that. I had to do the TLCS-900/H...

Re: kindred (emulator)

Is there some trick to getting this working? I tried running it, saw the wheel spin for 5 seconds, then nothing. I go to task manager and it's running in the background or something? If I keep trying, it spits out an "Unable to create log file" error message and more instances show up in task manag...

Re: Some tidbits about the Cx4 (attn: byuu, nocash)

If this information is already known, disregard. I haven't been here in a while. What exactly happens on MOV MBR,reg[00-5f]? Does it get loaded with zero? In my tests zero was returned. Implementing this breaks sprites in Rockman X2's opening sequence, the 2 on the X2 title screen, and I stopped loo...

Re: Super Magic Drive

I don't own a Super Magic Drive but you should be able to use floppy disks formatted in MS-DOS. My Super Wildcard wouldn't work with any disks formatted with any version of Windows 95 or above because of long filenames. Since the Super Magic Drive and the Super Wildcard were both produced by FFE I w...

Since I last posted here I also added IBM PC XT/AT to the list. kindred also hit another milestone in August, it turned 21. https://www.crazysmart.net.au/kin...

Re: Mesen-S - SNES Emulator

As for performance ... unfortunately SNES emulation lives in the shadow of ZSNES, and likely always will. It has completely distorted what the general public thinks of how demanding SNES emulation really is. I like the analogy of Nesticle versus Nestopia. We went from needing a 25MHz CPU to an 800M...

Re: Some tidbits about the Cx4 (attn: byuu, nocash)

We have the unused bit at d8 ... why the heck isn't this used to implement BNE, BLT, BPL, BVC? Augh ... so ridiculous. I'm very torn between implementing the unused bits as opcode mirrors versus as no operations. Overload, what is your confidence in the .s being mirrors? Eg I notice for NOP, it cou...

Re: Some tidbits about the Cx4 (attn: byuu, nocash)

"Most" feels like a strong overstatement. Maybe not most but a lot of it was already known. I have information that is unpublished as well. I'm pretty sure some of that information was already in the "CX4 Program ROM" thread on your forums. On your instruction set ... you're missing $1c00 (wait for...

Re: Some tidbits about the Cx4 (attn: byuu, nocash)

Very nice document. That was available in 2011??? I've implemented the CX4 stuff in no$sns in December 2011, back then I've only found two txt files (attached below), maybe that were much earlier versions of your doc? The cx4.html file appears in the internet archive starting at 2013, though I've m...

Re: Some tidbits about the Cx4 (attn: byuu, nocash)

Most of this information (except timing info) was made available when segher and I reverse engineered the CX4 chip back in 2011. Information regarding register mapping and the entire instruction set was published. The complete instruction set has been on the snes9x dsp website for 7 years. http://us...

Re: kindred (emulator)

Glad to see another update on this project, I tried this emulator years ago and stopped using it because it lacked features that other snes emulator had. I Recently decided to give this emulator a try again with this new update and while the emulator is not bad it still doesn't feel like a finished...

Re: Perfect FDS 2C33 audio when not using actual FDS disks?

The 2c33 can verify the CRC16, but you still read it off the disk like normal data. No weird tricks necessary (you can't seek backwards, btw). So the crc16 is readable from the famicom/nes side? Interesting. And by 'seek backward' I mean enable the motor right after it gets disabled and the head st...
