Re: Audio levels survey, expansion audio etc.

Hi Just made my own independent test on my hundred+ N163 collection https://twitter.com/plgDavid/status/1243562177920933888?s=20 I tried to separate the documentation in separate steps. So far what I've done: 1)List all unique N163 game+pcb variant (including 6 not found on nescartdb) 2)Verify resis...

Re: New VRC7 patch set

Southco manufactures various products, including rivets, latches, handles and fasteners. It had developed a numbering identification system using nine digits, where each digit or group of digits signified a relevant characteristic of the respective product. which sounds awfully similar to a descrip...

Re: New VRC7 patch set

Current jurisprudence in the US is pretty clear that numbers as small as those needed to configure an OPLL patch are much too small to qualify for copyright, and even the set of a specific set of 15 would be very hard to argue qualify for the separate set of protections granted to aggregate works (...

Re: Thoughts about adding YMF262 to Famicom cart

(I have a ARM chip co-processor Famicom cart as well - that does audio). One idea I've been playing around with for a while is a hardware synth that automatically encodes its output as DPCM and lets the NES stream it. No idea if your ARM+GAL design gives you enough rope to try that, or if you're in...

Re: Thoughts about adding YMF262 to Famicom cart

From your experience, what do you think is the most fitting synth for a future MMC7 NES game? For an actual synth chip, YMF262 is very easy and cheap to attain, and there is something special about using the real chip -- not to discount the accuracy of the emulation demonstrated in the video. There...

Re: New VRC7 patch set

Edit: I downloaded the demo of plgDavid's program, which actually has a set of VRC7 patches of its own stored in some text files. Surprisingly there's a lot of differences from all the patch sets I have archived from over the years. I guess this is a completely independent reverse engineering. Desp...

Re: Thoughts about adding YMF262 to Famicom cart

Similar to adding an AY-3-8910 synthesizer to an FME-7 cart to make a Gimmick! repro, it seems equally simple to add a dirt cheap YMF262 for expansion audio. Hardware-wise, it seems totally painless and straightforward. This could be added super easy to a mapper-0 cart for proof of concept and be a...

Re: NES Cart DB down again

Excellent news today! I sent in the drive earlier this week, they received it yesterday, and already today they are telling me they can recover 100% of what I need and sent me a file manifest of the contents of the drive and it looks like everything is there! So long as the transfer goes smooth, I ...

There is at least one sound effect (first thing you hit that dies in the game) that was redirected to the 2A03.
Maybe the NSF ripper did more 2A03 redirection?

Missing MMC5 info for Uchuu Keibitai SDF on wiki

Hi Got a hold of a Uchuu Keibitai SDF cart since I'm collecting and doing tests of just about everything expansion audio related for our projects. The wiki entry does not mention it in the list of MMC5 carts that actually uses the MMC5 for audio. http://wiki.nesdev.com/w/index.php/List_of_games_with...

In any case, I just measured a copy of Laser Invasion (NES-ELROM-01) and found the same connectivity that you did, so I'll add that.
Thanks for confirming!

MMC5 pinout error on wiki?

Hello Was investigating an issue I have with a MMC5 test cart (Just Breed - HVC-EKROM-01) and noticed the pinout on http://wiki.nesdev.com/w/index.php/MMC5_pinout didn't list a !ROMSEL entry. I continuity tested it from pin 44 from the famicom connector straight to MMC5 pin 78 (just right from M2), ...

I've no doubt. But I wanted the real generator for my own analysis.
