Re: Just a little shmup mockup (updated Feb 7th)

That is fair critique, tokumaru. Actually gave me some ideas for how I could rework the boss when I got a bit of time. :)

Re: Question about BG3

Haha, yeah, I have heard that the SNES is pretty finicky to program, esp if you want fast action kinda stuff.

But the amount of palettes and such is very nice and I like optimising palettes to get the most out of them, etc.

Re: Question about BG3

Yeah, some interesting stuff.

I find the SNES graphics limitations really attractive, speaking as an artist. And would love to work on a proper SNES project at some point. No time for that right now though, since I am already working on a Wonderswan Color project in my freetime.

Re: Question about BG3

This is Hagane Stage 1-2 https://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/214888-hagane-the-final-conflict-snes-screenshot-bombs-don-t-have.png The purple liquid and the shadowing effect is done with BG3. The main bg is BG2 I think and then BG1 in the front. Stage 1-3 of Yoshi's Island is the most extreme s...

Question about BG3

In Mode 1, which seems to be what is most commonly used, you get the 2bpp BG3 layer. According to the Background Priority Chart here it can either go on top of both BG1 and BG2 or underneath them. In Yoshi's Island there are tons of places where BG3 is in between BG1 and BG2 which is not listed in t...

Which games used the de-emphasis feature?

Just the topic name really. Which of the commercial games used the de-emphasis feature, if any?

Re: My art showcase (Character Portraits - April 03)

They will be used nowhere, I have been making these kinda face collections using various restrictions, such as EGA, CGA, MSX among others, just for fun. But it would be quite easy to have a rastersplit below them and use them as some kind of shop/conversation portraits in a game scenario. On top of ...

Re: My art showcase (New Mockup - 25th of March)

Bunch of faces, each face uses 4 tile palettes of its own. Will do more until I reach 16 faces.

Re: My art showcase (New Mockup - 25th of March)

thefox: Just checked. In the case of my reduced mockup that is 274 metatiles it comes down to being 247 if colourdata was stored separately. And that imo is worth it, because I am not using some of the possible metatiles in the 274 one, so what you could do would amount to a lot more. For example th...
