Veggie Invaders

Hi yall! Got started on this kinda late and submitted at just the last minute, but here's my submission for the 2019 compo. It's a top-down 8-way scrolling action game based on the concept of "a projectile that let's you play Snake". The engine is a bit rough but works overall pretty well, I think I...

NES ROM is Also a ZIP File That Contains Itself

https://vigrey.com/blog/this-nes-rom-also-zip-file

Pretty interesting. Vi Grey takes advantage of zip files' loose header specification to make a ROM that contains itself. The ROM can be burned to a cart, ripped later on, renamed to a zip, and then unzipped to retrieve the same ROM.

Re: Limitiation or compromise if write program in c

How do you debug the C code of an NES game? cc65 command line directive --add-source I built a tool on top of this, called annotatecc65, that adds the original C source into FCEUX's debugger, which makes debugging very straight-forward. I'm interested if anyone has tried it out and found it useful....

Re: NES: Technique for debugging CC65 code?

I use this to get source-level debugging (original C source code visible in FCEUX's debugger):

Re: Indivisible on NES

This is great! Looks excellent. And, as someone who's made a demake before, I know how hard it can be to capture an original, but you've done really well!

Re: FCEUX crashes when I close a ROM

The fix was really simple. I submitted an issue and the fix at https://sourceforge.net/p/fceultra/bugs/804/ in case anyone is interested. Patch is attached in case you want to build from source yourself.

Re: FCEUX crashes when I close a ROM

I apologize, it was mostly out of frustration that I'd have to relearn git-svn and manage to update code without ruining some private branches. Did not mean any derision against the FCEUX maintainers.

Sounds like a use after free bug, or something in a destructor. I might be able to take a look at it.

Not quite 15 years, but the story about "Tobias and the Dark Sceptres" is pretty incredible. Fellow starts making his dream indie game, takes 13 years to finish it, then makes an amazing video describing the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2b0tSu0QDQ0

Re: The 64K question about Sonic Mania

The emerald bonus levels where you need to chase the UFO is directly referencing the bonus levels in Sonic CD, so they could definitely be done there.
