Thanks for the info.

Is there a way to have Loopy's MMC5 mapper be installed in parallel with the PowerMappers, or would I need to swap out the mappers anytime I want to run an MMC5 game?

Re: PowerMappers (a new set of PowerPak mappers)

I tried to run Tecmo Super Bowl 2017 on my PowerPak with the PowerMappers, but it's failing for me. I get to the point where the progress bar gets to 100%, it goes to a black screen like normal, but it stays stuck on a black screen. Previous iterations of Tecmo Super Bowl 201X seem to work, but this...

Re: Looking to maybe start a project

Does the palette chooser not let you chose $20 (white)? I just used a super simple palette editor. I selected white, but it doesn't seem to change anything using this simple program. http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/69/ I just did a few searches and found a few apps and tutorials that I can mayb...

Re: Looking to maybe start a project

I finally stopped being lazy and finished up my Super Mario Bros 1 hack: "Super Cubeboy". All of my work was done through various apps (TLP, SMB Rom Text Editor, Very Easy Super Mario Title Editor, Mario's Beauty Salon) to get the end result. http://www.cubeboy.com/SuperCubeboy/Cubeboy%20Drawing.JPG...

Re: Looking to maybe start a project

I haven't really done anything more with my "project", but I did try out Tile Layer Pro with Super Mario Bros 1. A comment, and a question. Comment: I had no idea how many tiles that are "reused" for different mario sprites. Tops of heads are reused, some tiles are reflected. It's not a huge deal, b...

Re: Looking to maybe start a project

Just finishing up on most of the non-water sprites for my Cubeboy character. I've tried to rasterize which has helped. I definitely understand a lot better now how character cover art for NES games ended up looking nothing like the characters in game.

Re: Looking to maybe start a project

Thanks for all the tips. I'm starting to collect a bunch of bookmarks that hopefully will help me get started with things in the next few weeks.

Re: Looking to maybe start a project

After procrastinating on this "project", I've finally started doing a little work on it. I've done a couple of frames for both the 16x32 and 16x16 version. Although I'm happy with what I have so far (at least for my simple standards), I'm concerned about the 16x16 sprites because the arm and legs ar...

Re: What do we want in a tutorial?

I've put the outline on a wiki page . Speaking as someone making an attempt at my own game (although very slowly), I like this outline. It starts with first learning how to display something on screen, how to make them move, how to make them interact, and then how to make something more complex. Th...

Re: Looking to maybe start a project

Thanks for all the replies. Tokumaru got my intentions. I'm hoping to learn to hack a game, before trying to tackle programming one on my own. I've been loosely following romhacking.net, and this forum, and drew this (probably incorrect) assumption: I could draw a character using a restricted pixel ...

Looking to maybe start a project

I started drawing my Cubeboy character about 25 years ago, and have always dreamed about putting him in a video game. So I want to entertain this idea of mine from 25 years ago, but will probably need a ton of help along the way. Here's my game plan, and I'm breaking it up into five phases. Phase 1:...

Shoulda figured I'd've made a braino when I did that. It's not 0=pressed, it's 1=pressed. Re: Powerpak and Family Trainer Games

I gave it a try and here's what I found. Just a quick summary of the game first, all running is on the middle row of buttons. Running on the middle two buttons runs in the middle lane in the game. The left two buttons run on the top lane, and the two right buttons is on the bottom lane. The top and ...

Re: Powerpak and Family Trainer Games

Hm. This may have been a poor choice; the original crashes for me in emulators. Anyway, if one of them catches your eye, name it and I'll try hacking it. It looks straight-forward. Jogging Race is the one I was mostly looking to play. I saw Arino play it on Game Center CX and thought it looked like...
