The quest for mid-screen palette changes!

After successfully setting up the MMC3 and figured out how to use the IRQs, I decided to try something very few NES games attempt and change the palette mid-screen. One of the characteristics of the MMC3 scanline counter is that if the Sprites are loaded from Pattern Table 1 and the backgrounds are ...

Re: How do I set up MMC3?

Thank you very much! That really cleared up a lot. I will now try to compile a program, using MMC3. I'll ask, if I encounter any issues.

Re: How do I set up MMC3?

Wow, thanks for your replies! Kasumi's guide was especially detailed and it cleared up a lot of stuff for me. I still have a few questions, though. I am using ASM6 to compile my programs, and this made me wonder... how do you define the different banks that aren't mapped to any particular address? G...

How do I set up MMC3?

So far I've been writing programs with no mapper (UNROM). I wanted to try out something with MMC3, but it turns out that simply setting up the mapper is more confusing than I thought. Now, I do realize there's already a thread like this, but there they simply focused on fixing the problem that the p...

Re: NES with color Palettes of different systems

This technical approach is very interesting. In some cases the results are spectacular (Castlevania with the C64 palette, for instance)! In other cases, it's a bit disappointing (In Metroid, Samus is completely yellow with the Apple II palette). The good thing is that the color ramps could be more a...

Re: James Rolfe's reaction to Ghostbusters trailer creates d

I still can't believe this has even happened. James simply made a statement that he's not going to see the film and then all hell broke loose. I think one of the reasons this got so much attention (besides the whole Patton Oswald thing) might be the whole tension between SJWs and people who don't wa...

Re: Practicing and honing pixel art skills

After all, that's what all nature romance artists did back in the day. Sit in a spot, watch a scene, draw outlines, paint (with am often restricted palette), trying to capture the complexity with stylistic tricks developed through repetition. Yeah, but they had to replicate what they see by drawing...

Re: Practicing and honing pixel art skills

Uh, thanks for the review. :) However this was not the main thing I was asking for. Please read my original post again. I need to know how to "get started" with pixel art, so that I can cover the basics, some of which I haven't even touched upon. After all, this picture was simply drawn over. Anyone...

Practicing and honing pixel art skills

Well, this is not really about NES graphics, but pixel art, in general. Although I can make some decent stuff, I feel like I don't really have a solid base, so I need to cover that and try to improve my pixel art skills. Although I don't know where exactly to start from. I decided to trace something...

Re: Castlevania - Dark Version

I just noticed this and I have to say, it looks pretty good. As a matter of fact, I think I have made a darker version of Castlevania III myself, although I think I never finished it... I don't remember. I didn't have as much experience with colors back then, anyway, so it wouldn't look that good.

But if they develop stronger bonds than they ever would otherwise, then it does seem reasonable to me as a reason to be caution against premarital sex Not necessarily. Although having sex with someone just once or a few times wouldn't start a romantic relationship, it would kinda bring the two peop...

Re: THIS BIBLE.

How do homosexual acts not make sense? Sure, people cannot reproduce with them, but sex is not always about reproduction. In nature, sex is also good for relieving stress and strengthening bonds between individuals. In fact, there is a theory that different species evolved to include homosexual beha...

Re: The Sally-Anne test and other autism tests

I don't think I have Asperger syndrome... Hmmm... I do have OCD though, but that's not on the autistic spectrum. Besides, I hate having it. I don't know what I'm talking about any more. :D I'm gonna have some potato balls now :P

Re: The Sally-Anne test and other autism tests

There's really no advantage for an adult to get a diagnosis. I'm not looking for advantages, I'm just curious. Besides, if I have any autism (which is unlikely), it'd probably be some kind of partial autism that doesn't mean anything. I'm not seeking help for anything, I'm fine when it comes to com...
