Re: Looking for TA-03NP/1 clone CPU

My reason for wanting one is NSF playback. Since the pich is so similar to NTSC chips, all it takes in software like Famitracker is to set the clock speed to 50 Hz. I also just enjoy the novelty of owning high quality fakes, and since I essentially collect sound chips, a proper hybrid clone of the 2...

Re: Looking for TA-03NP/1 clone CPU

Ultimately, revision doesn’t matter. I’d obviously prefer to get my hands on an NP1-6527P, but any other version would help me get the timeline down for when UMC got the clone formula right. The reason I think they’re totally separate clones is, despite them being occasionally used with UMC parts, t...

Looking for TA-03NP/1 clone CPU

Recently, a buddy in Poland sold me a Pegasus IQ-502 and whatever other common famiclone was available sround Poland (the 777 one I think). I was really only interested in the Pegasus, so the 777 is only conna be around for parts. Both have clone parts from 1992, so both have the bug where the APU1 ...

Re: Family Noraebang (패밀리 노래방)

Any idea what it does with the expansion cartridge? Do any still exist? Because if the expansion cartridge is for adding new songs, this might be a way to play custom YM2413 music, giving an excuse for implementing full YM2413 in something like FamiTracker. I've got a few I'd like to see: "Bang Ban...

Re: Concept for actually making VIN useful - "MBC-5B"

I went ahead and got 10 boards and ordered the parts for five. If they work 100%, or reasonably well, I'll buy the parts to populate the other five boards and send them out to whoever wants to write something or just play around with them.

Re: Concept for actually making VIN useful - "MBC-5B"

... But if you put the registers at $4400-$47FF, that'll overlap with the MBC register at $4000-$5FFF... According to Nitro: Writes to areas like 6000 could conflict with for example EMS's multi ROM functionality. I might personally put it in a MBC register space which has a well defined use, but w...

Re: Concept for actually making VIN useful - "MBC-5B"

Yep after, just like that. looks a lot better. Make sure pin 1 of that oscillator isn't an enable input or anything. if it's NC I suggest connecting it to VCC because it's a positive output enable on a lot of models, but check the data sheets to be sure. Okie dokie. I'll make the minor change of ho...

Re: Concept for actually making VIN useful - "MBC-5B"

[OLDER IMAGE] Did some of the changes, namely went to an OSC, added the decoupling cap, and the resistor from VIN to ground. I also did a little rewiring but I don't think it made much difference. The width of the power traces was fine since I used .5mm (19.86 mils) I suggest a 1uf between the outp...

Re: Concept for actually making VIN useful - "MBC-5B"

A casual reminder that the YMZ will further divide CLK by two, resulting in it running at 1/8th of the internal clock. That, and as far as I'm aware, the GB has 11-bit pitch where the YMZ has 12-bit, so to get it where the pitch tables line up exactly, I have to clock it at half of the gameboy speed...

Re: Concept for actually making VIN useful - "MBC-5B"

Not to pop your bubble but you need to make some changes to that to make it work. Absolutely not popping any bubbles, that's the whole reason for me posting that screenshot, and people popping in and offering their input, you especially, is even more motivation to get this done. I'll make some of t...

Re: Concept for actually making VIN useful - "MBC-5B"

https://my.mixtape.moe/yejcdq.png Well, here goes the first proto. This is meant to plug in between the GB itself and a flash cartridge. I don't know if splitting the lines like this and making them this much longer than they need to be will cause any issues. Also, I have no idea if this will work ...

Re: Concept for actually making VIN useful - "MBC-5B"

The YMZ284/294 has two separate enables that both have to be low; other parts (e.g. AY-3-8910) do something else. The other enables are /WR and /CS, both have to remain low. A0 being high selects the register, while it being low writes the data. (Try gnd → 74HC138./G2[A,B] , +5V → 74HC138.+G1 , A[1...

Concept for actually making VIN useful - "MBC-5B"

After some extremely crude fun messing around with LSDJ and enabling VIN to play Famicom expansion chips behind LSDJ tracks, I got to talking with B00daW and others to see about making an MBC5-compatible cart with an on-board sound chip that people could actually use. I don't have any hardware proto...

Re: FDS RAM Adapter - NES Version

Funny enough, I've been working on something like this for a few weeks now. I've got an adapter board done that you should be able to use to replace the right-angle connector and then use a low-profile FC/NES adapter to connect it to the NES, manually wiring the cable connections o the exp pins. Sin...

Re: 100% working replacement TLROM boards for 8 Bit Music Po

I know, but a normal Nintendo TLROM board won't fit inside the 8 Bit Music Power shell. New boards needed to be made to solve the problem.
