What Remains 1.0 released!

Hello everyone! I'm part of a group who worked on this small visual novel / adventure / interactive fiction sort of game for the past 2 years. We're finally releasing the hopefully bug/typo free version with last layer of polish on top :) What Remains It is 1986. You just came home from a skate sess...

Re: Converting a PAL EU NES console into PAL UK NES console

Late update...

As it turned out, both UK PAL games I ordered (NES Open and Defender of the Crown) have the 3197A. All good!

Re: Converting a PAL EU NES console into PAL UK NES console

NES Open tournament, no particular reason, I took the cheapest BIN available. But, I really should have waited for the answer here before ordering, it was stupid... There are quite a few UK carts on bootgod, and it's easy to find one that is both cheap and would have a 3197 CIC. Anyway, regardless o...

Re: Converting a PAL EU NES console into PAL UK NES console

Oh wow! Thanks for the info! This is going to make things a bit more tricky/exciting then. The UK game I'm ordering is not on bootgod's database. Or to be more precise, it has entries for the USA, Scandinavian and German versions, but not the UK. The last two have a 3195A, but the USA one has a 6113...

Converting a PAL EU NES console into PAL UK NES console

Hello, I'm pretty sure this would work fine.... but I prefer to ask just to be sure... :) I've made a prototyping cartridge using krikkz' avrciczz to make the dev cart multi-region and it seems to work fine, except that I only have a PAL NES console to test. I would like to test it on more re...

Re: NES Classic Edition - Nintendo's own repro console

Anyone knows if this is targeted only to non Eastern Asian markets, or do they also have a Famicom classic Edition? (Or will this be a global product?) Re: NES Cart DB down again

I was actually trying to access the NES Cart DB right now, as part of my slow learning about mappers, NES/FC PCBs and cart making. After searching a bit I ended up back on this forum, reading the bad news. It seems to be a very valuable resource for the NesDev community, and I'm happy to donate a bi...

Re: Source for used EPROMs

Possibly another stupid question from me.

I'm looking into recycled EPROMs for this project, but in fact, are EPROMs still produced nowadays?

In which case all the "new" EPROMs on Ebay or AliExpress are in fact new old stock?

Re: Source for used EPROMs

OK Thanks! Now I understand your comment "any larger game would require rework regardless of UVEPROM or Flash". I had assumed that the flash option would have required more modifications compared to what was already needed for the EPROM. So basically I would have four options in term of recycling le...

Re: Source for used EPROMs

No no no, I meant to ask if the SST39SF0x0s were a drop-in replacement for the matching 27C0x0s.

Wait, the SST39SF010-040 are drop-in replacements?

Re: Source for used EPROMs

For the smaller parts, 50¢ / EPROM is a reasonable price, but at $1+ / EPROM you should seriously consider new parts instead (e.g. SST39SF010 through 040). In addition, if you're going to be developing games, I strongly recommend using EEPROMs / Flash instead of UVEPROMs: not having to wait for the...
