Re: What happened to the Nesdev phpBB theme?!?!

None of this happens for me. Because you don't visit sites that force an #^@$%&^% unreadable font for the entire site, and thus have not blocked remote fonts, which the new board software is abusing for icons, like all the other "cool" sites with no regard for usability do these days. As for the ot...

Re: What happened to the Nesdev phpBB theme?!?!

Finally, our absentee admin returns. Glad to see you again, WhoaMan. I mean it. As for the ongoing discussion: I could hardly care less about the theme. My beef is that everything is broken . <rant> Every single button (and some things that aren't buttons) on the site has a box full of hex instead o...

Re: What happened to the Nesdev phpBB theme?!?!

WHO MOVED MY CHEESE!? Now I can't find anything, 90% of the site is unreadable because it depends on 11 different scripts and remote fonts, I can't move my mouse without some popup obscuring what I'm trying to read, I can't block said popups because half the links I want to find are inside them - wh...

Re: How do I shot web[site]

Okay, let's say I have a VPS or something, where I'm doing all the software myself. Does anyone have a checklist or summary of things I have to set up? I'm asking because I only just now learned there are a bunch of 'standard' email addresses every domain is supposed to have, and I'm wondering what ...

Re: Nova the Squirrel 2 (WIP)

Looking good! Just be careful not to add so much detail it becomes hard to tell what's important to the gameplay.

The springs, for example, currently have similar low contrast to the tufts of grass, and if you're red/green colorblind probably similar color too.

Re: Just wanted to say thank you to this forum

Yes, thank you! To everyone who helped make Nesdev what it is and everyone I've had the pleasure of talking to in the four short years I've been a member. Marscaleb was on the money when he said there was a lot of intelligent and professional people here. It's been a blast and a learning experience ...

Re: Character Art ]|[

Man, you have no idea how long it took me to make these. Actually, given how long it's been since your first thread, I think I just might! I spent months where I drew these characters several times a day, every day, trying to get the proportions right. That only makes me respect your skills more. I...

Re: Character Art ]|[

I can see you've teaked the mage's facial hair already, but it still looks a bit... not wrong, just not as slick as the rest. Feels a bit tacked-on. Otherwise he's very sharp, I like what you've done with him. For the reaper... I know the character is supposed to look like that, but I'm firmly in th...

Re: How do I shot web[site]

Thanks for the links, tepples. I feel I should clarify that a) the site I mentioned in the OP is going down because it's on a private server, which they no longer have anyone to maintain, and b) my interest in so-called 'silos' is so low that the articles you linked to read like a strawman argument....

How do I shot web[site]

I've somehow foolishly gotten myself tangled up in an internet community that's about to shut down due to their sysadmin retiring at the end of the year. I can't actually help them directly, because I know exactly two things about running a web server, those being jack and squat. But I've always wan...

Re: Why preserve video games?

Thirding this as a case of "complaining about shows you don't watch." Even if you don't care about history, that doesn't mean nobody does. In fact, someone, somewhere, some when is pretty much guaranteed to, even if it's just some 24th century author trying to make his period holoplay more detailed....

Re: 500 internal server error when posting

Just happened to me too.

Not that I would have noticed without the big gray "500" on the screen, since the post went through fine and it's otherwise business as usual for my piece-of-crap connection.

Re: What do you think of FPGAs?

I know nothing about FPGAs, but on the topic of the discussion/flame war I do know this: getting low latency on a 'modern' PC is a stone bitch. Your keyboard alone probably has more latency than a NES+CRT end-to-end, nevermind the rest of your computer . It's possible, sure, but you've really got to...

Re: 6502/65816: IRQ testing not on last cycle of each opcode

When I was tearing my hair out trying to get my FM chip emulators cycle-accurate, I got a lot of mileage out of basically vectorizing everything. Instead of having a variable for each piece of state, I'd have an array. All the wonky off-by-one timings could just look up a different cycle in the arra...
