Re: Problems getting *good* SNROM CHR RAM proto booting on N

I have since programmed my own chip with my dump and it's still garbled. Again, the dump works fine in an emulator and the test NES with an Everdrive. I know that my adapter works because I made the dump through it on a Kazzo and it compared identically to one I made through the programmer (ignoring...

Re: Rolling video w/a particular game pak (The Immortal; TLR

Well, I've had Everdrives for well over a year now and I finally got around to patching a ROM with these fixes. It works, but it seems that we missed one. First I tried these: Battle screen YEXNPNIE 0001F7B9: 0D 0F Title screen YEKNPNIE 0001F7D9: 0D 0F Walking screen YEVNPNIE 0001F7F9: 0D 0F Sprite ...

Problems getting *good* SNROM CHR RAM proto booting on NES

I have an NTSC prototype of a game that was never released in NTSC countries which came to me chip-only. I want to demonstrate it working in an actual NES when it comes time to sell it. I have dumped it and the dump works on both in emulation and on a real NES. The thing is, the proto came on a Tosh...

Re: INL/Kazzo MMC3 SRAM dumping

Bump. In case anyone is still interested, I found out how to dump Startropics 1. Use this command: anago.exe d22 mmc3_v2.ad startropics.nes with the following script: board <- { mappernum = 4, ppu_ramfind = true, vram_mirrorfind = false cpu_rom = { size_base = 2 * mega, size_max = 4 * mega, banksiz...

Re: Is this EEPROM a drop-in replacement?

Well, holes 2 and 22 are definitely NOT tied together on the board like the NESDEV pinout says they are. There's no continuity there. The last time I tied pin 22 (/CE) to ground it went from corrupt graphics to gray screen (pin 2, /OE, already tied to ground). I know that the board still works with ...

Re: Is this EEPROM a drop-in replacement?

OK, reading the data sheet I see that Memblers is absolutely right: VPP and PGM still need 5v in read mode. Luckily, they both get that when connected straight thru-hole. It also says that /OE and /CE both need to be low for the chip to be read. Thanks to this pinout putting /OE on pin 2, /OE and /C...

Re: Is this EEPROM a drop-in replacement?

Well, you can still dump the first half of it by reading it as though it were a 27'1001... Playing around with a socket to rewire things for the programmer, or building your own reader (given a PIC or an arduino/atmega) would also be a reasonable answer. I made an adapter and have the dump and it w...

Re: Is this EEPROM a drop-in replacement?

VPP and /PGM should be connected to 5V. How /OE is connected may depend on the mapper. This is SNROM, mapper 1. I tried VPP and /PGM to +5V while leaving /OE disconnected and I got a gray screen. When I connect /OE to ground I get garbled graphics. When I connect it all straight through I get the s...

Re: Is this EEPROM a drop-in replacement?

VPP and /PGM should be connected to 5V. How /OE is connected may depend on the mapper. Thanks. I had figured the opposite and assumed that neither are supposed to get anything when not programming. ;) It doesn't look like a 28-pin MaskROM would have even had /OE and I'm connecting it in the 28-pin ...

Re: Is this EEPROM a drop-in replacement?

According to that datasheet, the TC571000AD is a traditional UVEPROM, and it has the exact same pinout as most other UVEPROMs (such as the M27C1001). Note that Nintendo's variant pinout was specifically designed to be upwards compatible with the 28-pin 128 KiB mask ROM, whereas all the JEDEC ROMs w...

Is this EEPROM a drop-in replacement?

I have a rather strange 32-pin 128KB EEPROM that strangely seems to already conform to the pinout of a 28-pin NES MaskROM. It contains an unreleased prototype that I would like to put into a cartridge to make it work. FWIW, it has already been dumped, but I want to get the original chip running in a...

Re: Hi-Def NES HDMI Adapter for the NES

A recent video from Jason and Kevin on Kevin's channel mentioned Sharp twinFAMICOM issues as if they have already talked about them in previous update videos. They haven't to my knowledge. I asked for more info in the comments section but all I got was a reply from someone in the same situation as m...

Re: Rolling video w/a particular game pak (The Immortal; TLR

NesCartDB has no report of The Immortal having been released outside North America. (If there were such a report, there would be a flag of Japan in "More Profiles".) The 72-pin Sharp NES TV used the composite PPU, not the RGB PPU. They were on the shelf in every K-Mart, which is where I plugged in ...

Re: Rolling video w/a particular game pak (The Immortal; TLR

I would guess that The Immortal now works in the Sharp Famicom TV, Sharp Famicom Titler as well as games that break TVs synchronization with palette value 0D with these patches. Just Googled and can't find a report of The Immortal not working with a Sharp Famicom TV. Was that reported to be the case?
