Re: How NES render graphics?

Early systems like the NES drew the screen repeatedly one scanline at a time. This is why you have stuff like only 8 sprites per scanline - each row of pixels is processed individually and there's only so much processing time that can be spent on any given row. Framebuffer-based graphics processors...

Re: How NES render graphics?

It's using blitting and double buffering(in most cases) to present image. Why do you believe this? There is no buffer. Try reading that text mode article that was linked? Because i know, on big vide modes(640x480 for example) double buffering is must have to reduce flickering due to time needed to ...

Re: How NES render graphics?

These should get you started: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Text_mode https://wiki.nesdev.com/w/index.php/PPU Text modes on IBM PC or any other comupter can't be compared with NES. It's using blitting and double buffering(in most cases) to present image. But looks like PPU can store framebuffer, ha...

How NES render graphics?

Hello.
How NES render graphics?
I don't think it have framebuffer, due to 2kb of RAM.
For example PAL 16 indexed colors we should allocate about 400 bytes of RAM.
So, may be i should take sprite from chr and directly copy in to NES graphics processor?
Links pls.

Re: NES paint programs?

Stupid answer. I'm ask about programs to draw sprites per pixel in style like nes. Don't offtopic. That's a pretty rude answer to give someone who's trying to help you. "NES-style art" is something you can do in any program if you know the restrictions of the system, which you should if you're tryi...

Re: NES paint programs?

Do you know, or are you willing to learn, how to use the Windows Command Prompt ? Or do you require that all applications have a GUI and be launchable through a double-click in File Explorer? No. I'm working with linux in previous, but in this case i want draw my sprites in GUI environment. I'm ask...

Re: NES paint programs?

It depends on how accurate to the NES limits you want your game's graphics to adhere. If you just want the colors, here's a PNG image containing a reasonable palette . There's a background graphics editor that runs on an NES or in an NES emulator . It comes with a command-line tool written in Pytho...

Re: Why NES have too ugly arch?

It takes a miniscule amount of time to read in the grand scheme of things (even with an active DMC), and even then some games opted out for an unrolled loop and had the same code repeated 8 times. It works, and honestly my question would rather be why the designers of the Mega Drive felt that a con...

Re: Why NES have too ugly arch?

Personally, I would just say monobogdan is trolling, and ignorant of how the passage of time works. "Why didn't you invest in Apple stock in 1994? They're worth billions now!" "Why did you marry Mom and have kids? Your next girlfriend could have been much nicer." "Why did you design the space shutt...

Re: Why NES have too ugly arch?

The time it takes to read a game pad is negligible. It shouldn't be the cause of slowdowns. I try PyNes. I suggest taking the time (a couple of hours) reading through one of the many excellent 6502 instruction set manuals. Whether you'll end up using assembly language or not, it will probably help ...
