Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

The BS-3600 is capable of encoding video and digital audio to the standards compatible with BS decoder set-top boxes. There is a built-in function generator to test the audio channels. It has the capability of accepting external audio input from an external analog-to-digital converter (which I do no...

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

Out of curiosity, I found a Dauphin DTR-1 tablet - an old portable touch screen MS-DOS tablet produced around 1993. It has a Kittyhawk hard drive in it. I purchased to see how the drive would fit. Comparison of the Kittyhawk drive next to 0.01CAD inside of the Satellaview EXT bay. http://isbrad.com/...

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

Story time! "Nintendo, for example, showed the Kittyhawk team an entertainment system they had already designed, unbeknownst to HP, with a slot for a Kittyhawk drive to be plugged in—a module that could contain many more games, with much more sophisticated graphics, than Nintendo’s conventional cart...

SuperDisc/SNES-CD and the Sony Data Discman

After getting a glimpse of the PCB photos from Ben Heckendorn's teardown of the system and some ideas from the analysis of the hardware by various individuals on here, I was convinced that the design of the hardware controlling the CD drive portion of the console could not have been too different fr...

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

Here are two photos of a BSC-1J5M-01 with the Datapak connector removed, for reference.
(Needed the connector for something, figured I’d photograph the board)

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

Double posting, just to give an update about Satellaview register $2197. Since we got a new dump, which is Wario's Woods Event Version 2, something was up. You could set the radio ON or OFF. The kind of stuff that's very explicit how it is done. Radio ON: Clear bit7 of $2197 Radio OFF: Set bit7 of ...

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

EDIT: Also, this may be worth reading: http://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=6569 I stumbled across this when looking for anything related to the MN88821: Screenshot of diagram It was in an application note document of reference designs of other Panasonic devices. That forum thread you linked,...

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

EXPAND isn't forwarded to the connector. NB. in general, EXPAND can be a "general purpose signal from the cartridge", but, with satellaview cartridges it's having a fixed purpose: EXPAND is always wired to SYSCK via 100 ohm (as so in BSX BIOS cart, and BSX carts like Itoi/Derby, and also in Nintend...

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

Okay, then EXT.pin23 should be an "active high IRQ input, inverted via Q5, and then passed to active low SNES /IRQ", right? I wonder if there's another IRQ source in the base unit? Going by the BSX BIOS disassembly there isn't anything hinting on IRQs from the base unit (however, the BSX BIOS cart ...

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

The opamp wired "as buffer" means that it has OUT and IN- shortcut with each other? Yes. The gain should ideally be 1:1. Did you comapre the LM324 wiring to SNES mainboard schematic? It's having LM324, too (with each channel having two opamp's in series, in lack of knowing a better name, I've calle...

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

Apropos Sound: Did anybody ever verify if the BS-X receiver unit does really connect to the external audio inputs on the SNES expansion port? It probably does so, but there's still at a small chance that the "soundlink" feature was implemented by streaming data to the APU instead of using the exter...
