Re: NES Cart DB down again

Just wanted to post an update, I didn't manage to ship out drive yet before I left for a long overdue vacation. I just got back tonight, I will get it shipped out for sure in the next couple days. I've gotten floods of support for both hosting and for helping out with recovery costs. I really apprec...

Re: NES Cart DB down again

I haven't tried any linux based approaches, and I have very little experience with linux based OS's in general. If there is a ready to go image file that I can just drop on a USB drive or burn onto a disc, I guess it's worth a shot.

Re: NES Cart DB down again

The drive that wont mount is problematic to try testing on because just having it installed will prevent system from booting. I've had it in a XP and a Win7 machine and both will stall indefinitely during the boot process while initializing disks. I've got an eSATA enclosure, putting it in there wil...

Re: NES Cart DB down again

I have heard of $300 data recovery before, and I had read a lot of bad things about them elsewhere. Hard to know what to believe these days. 2 others I have been looking into is Gillware and Fields Data Recovery. Price range for them is ($200 ~ $900) but they both diagnose the drives for free and te...

Re: NES Cart DB down again

Well this has turned into a god damn nightmare. The primary drive has mechanical problems for sure, the head will bang on the side a few times, wait a few seconds and repeat. I pulled the backup drive to try and pull data from it, but the damn thing wont mount in OS no matter how I try to hook it up...

NES Cart DB down again

So I get up this morning and am treated to the sounds from the server clicking and banging, the primary HD, naturally. Everything should be safely backed up, not too worried about that, however the PC itself seems to be having issues (e.g. not POSTing and if it manages to, won't boot from a disk any...

Re: Contra J repro on Batman 2?

It was checking a user permission to see if they were allowed to download source images, but the setting of this permission got botched at some point. So I've just removed the check for the time being, so it should work for anyone logged in now. I fixed the & encoding too :P Honestly, the source for...

Re: Contra J repro on Batman 2?

@ lidnariq Thanks, but Nothing happens by clicking on the image! Can you please download Front and Back of the PCB and upload them for me? Something must be bugged on my end, if your logged in and click on an image, it's supposed to download the image in original source dimensions. In the mean time...

Re: Info on a "new" pirate multi-cart, Teletubbies 420

I asked Martin if I he could post his mapper code and he obliged. His emulator is written in x86 asm though :P Unreadable source code: ; ; Y2k 42-in-1 ; ; $8000-$FFFF: mmMSSPPp mirror horizontal/vertical ; (address): -----RL? (L = 1) lock SS bits in current state until reset ; ; (mm = 00) select 16k...

Re: Info on a "new" pirate multi-cart, Teletubbies 420

Perhaps Martin (author of Nessie) could help, he managed to get it working. I don't think I can be of any further help unfortunately, I wrote that up over 4 years ago and don't remember anything beyond what I wrote here :P Do you have it working with the exception of being the wrong menu? If so, you...

Re: mask rom HN62308

My best guess is that it is EPROM compatible. I'm basing that on the fact that the HN62302BP is standard JEDEC pinout and HN62302DP is Nintendo custom pinout. The roms in your pirate cart would appear to be 8Mbit (1MB) so a 27C080 type EPROM should be compatible.

Re: Several Famicom Nes Documents... in Japanese

D7: 0 = H Scroll, 1 = V Scroll (invert to interpret as mirroring) "H Scroll" and "V Scroll" are very poor names to describe name table layout, because games can have any kind of scrolling with any kind of name table layout (different combinations will result in different kinds of artifacts at the e...

Re: Several Famicom Nes Documents... in Japanese

Yeah the footer only shows up in maybe 1/4 of the games out there, and often enough even if it is present, the data is incorrect in some manner.

Re: Several Famicom Nes Documents... in Japanese

It is cool to see the header (or footer rather) documented. We talked about this a long time ago here http://forums.no-intro.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=445 (which is surprisingly close). With these docs, we fill in some more blanks FFE0-FFFFh: Game Title. 16 bytes max. ASCII codes 20h-5Ah allowed. Supp...

Re: NESExplorer

By the way, anyone knows if NesCartDB has some kind of webservice? I'd love to integrate boxscans etc in this utility if possible.. Believe it or not, there already is! http://bootgod.dyndns.org:7777/getimage.php for usage instructions. Someone on this site integrated with their emulator some time ...
