Just thought I'd throw this out there as far as fast dev cycle times go, there is the CopyNES that uses USB. You can use the PowerPak Lite for simple mappers and I think for more complex ones you can make a custom RAM cart conversion using original mapper chips. So really if you are seriously in ne...

Self modifying code is neat and all, but to make that practical you'd probably have to jsr to ram and rts back anyway. Unless ofcourse you were already executing from ram for some reason, then that trick is very neat. EDIT: Since you only have 3 posts you might be new to the NES platform. The NES do...

You would still need hardware to emulate the mapper and store the data. So what you would end up with is a powerpak which is loaded via usb instead of from a memory card. That would be a great dev-kit! The current powerpak is useless for developing since there are alot of steps between compiling and...

It could be possible to do a playable remake of that game using either sprites or some 3d drawing method. But since you describe yourself as a newbie nes programmer I would recommend going with something easier for your first nes project. 3d on the nes haven't been done that many times, so you'd pre...

The snare and bass drums in Silver Surfer are the best non-sample drums I've heard on the NES.

I haven't really listened that much to NES music though, so it would make me very happy if someone could point out even better drums.

Yeah, the ending was a bit anticlimactic.

Coloring the game would ruin its cool style!

I played it all the way through some days ago. It's about as good as flash puzzle games get!

It was a bit on the easy side, but still awesome.

Does the sprites ever flicker?

32 8x16 sprites could make for a quite big fighter.

Writing assembly code is fundamentally different from using a high level language such as javascript. Multiplication and floating point numbers are not trivial at all on a processor like the 6502 which doesn't have a multiplication instruction and only handles 8 bit integers. I suggest starting with...

I'm not sure i understand what you mean, but couldn't you do something like this main: vait for nmi to return if state == menu menustuff else if state == introscreen introscreentuff else if state == game gamestuff jmp main And it'd be up to the *stuff to change the mainstate when they're exited. int...

It is awesome!

Ofcourse it'll probably never make a good game since the platform is too limited. but that's not really the point here.

Great work!

1GB of RAM for an OS is ridiculous.. I find it more ridiculous to leave RAM unused. It's great that windows and other operating systems finally use the RAM you have to speed things up. What's your reasoning behind leaving RAM unused until programs request it instead of using it and releasing it whe...

What Bregalad wants is to avoid getting extra life-extra life-extra life or weapon-weapon-weapon by "manipulating luck" as seen in the Mega Man TAS videos. Well that can easily be avoided by using a separate seed for the RNG used for item drops. So you can't interfere with item drops by triggering ...
