Snail Maze Game (ROM and source)

Hey guys, I was waiting to release the source to my recent project until it was fully commented. Turns out, I get bored with commenting! So, some is commented, some is not. I'm just ready to move on to the next project, so here this is. It is a recreation of the Snail Maze Game from the Sega Master ...

I strove for years to understand the reasons "why" behind voice leading and all those rules, and I believe I understand them pretty well. The ridiculously simple truth behind common practice era harmony is that composers/musicians back then were really fascinated with the sound of thirds and their ...

In Karnov, hidden items are revealed by jumping in certain places. In all my years of playing this game, I still find new hidden items that I didn't know about. A couple of years ago I even found some walls that you could blow up with bombs that I wasn't aware of.

In the third (or so) screen, one of the horizontal sparks is patrolling back and forth across a narrow gap. One of the objects I'm supposed to collect appeared in that gap, and it was impossible to collect it without taking a hit. Are cheap hits like this something that the player is supposed to ex...

Maybe add some "Continue"? Nah, the game is finished as is. I spent a lot of time with my testers trying to find a good balance to the levels. I think it was accomplished. Though it might seem hard at first, it's not all that bad really. Don't forget that you have a teleporter at your disposal! I c...

NES Virus Cleaner - ROM Release

I finally got around to finishing this game that I started a couple years back, I think it was. Details on how to play are in the game. I haven't talked to the website owner about soliciting for donations, so I'll just skip that part. In case there are folks that don't get to the credits at the end ...

For sure, you're right Bregalad! It's always nice to see other perspectives and ideas though, of course. I was just laying in bed (long night last night) and had a thought. The way I have it set up now, I have two bytes for each address for each 32x32 tile. I basically did this so it wouldn't matter...

... you would have to specify the exact same attribute byte for each instance of the metatile that uses it, something that would probably kill the gains from any compression scheme you used. Yeah, that would eat up more space. Sounds like attaching it to the metatile is the best way to go. Thanks! ...

Attributes with 32x32 Metatiles

I am working on a 32x32 metatile background engine, but started thinking about this when I started making some dummy data to test with. Would it be better to store the attribute byte with the metatile, or separate from it? As an example, if I were to store it like this: ; 32x32 metatiles = tile_name...

Here's an older topic that describes the steps necessary:

You may have to refer to a doc called nsfspec.txt (I think that's the proper name). Hope this helps!
