If I remember correctly, Sivak contacted the maker(s) of "I Wanna Be The Guy" about using a character that resembled their own, and they approved.

Can't wait to play it when it's out!

I made a little command line program that creates blank binary files that I use for CHR work. Download the program called 'makebin' on this page: http://robertlbryant.com/programs/cpp.htm Run it from the command line, enter 4 for your file size, and hit enter. Then open Tile Layer Pro, set 'Files of...

Zapper Implementation

Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to get the zapper to fire one shot at a time. As it stands, when I hold the right-click button down on the mouse, it repeats over and over and over again. I can't quite figure out what to do to make it single shot, such as in every other zapper game : P Here i...

Thanks for all the tips on this, I'll be checking some of this out. Thanks! Somewhere on my computer I have a custom version of VirtuaNES that has some extra registers for benchmarking code (I believe it could show the maximum # of cycles taken too, for different iterations). I could find and upload...

Hey guys, I uploaded the source and final build for TTXO now. The specifics about how crappy the code is can be seen on my blog page: http://robertlbryant.com/blog/?p=142 Even though it's crappy, I feel like there's something to be learned from most things, maybe not this, but you never know haha! A...

Scanline Counting

It uses 12 scanlines... So, I have been wondering for awhile about this kind of thing. I see people talking like "my routine takes X amount of scanlines," or "if you do X routine for X amount of scanlines," etc. How exactly do you guys figure the amount of scanlines? Do you count as you step throug...

Battletoads is one of my favorite games on the NES. That and Ninja Gaiden 1 and 3 are some of my favorites. If you wanna see all the levels in Battletoads, here is a playlist on YouTube of me playing it live from the beginning of the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVhbOBpiYoI&feature=PlayList&...

About the #nesdev IRC channel

I would like to discuss what we were talking about here: http://nesdev.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?p=46157#46157 To be honest, there hasn't been anything in #nesdev that has turned me off from it, and I'm wondering what has been said about the channel as of late. The worst experience I had ended up being ...

Hey, I think that sounds awesome! That'd be really cool of him to do something like that.

@koitsu: I think you are thinking of the IRC channel from back-in-the-day. It's a different beast than what it used to be : )

Things have been kinda slow for me in the past couple of days because I have been doing other stuff, but I sat down and decided exactly how I think I am going to have the song data stored now. I have been doing it in a byte, but I have now changed some of the upper nybble stuff. I haven't implemente...

Ah, I found what you were talking about. I didn't even know he had adapted NES101 hehe Anyway, in it, he does this: ; CHR-ROM .include "tutorchr.asm" If you notice, that is an .asm file that he is including. You are using a binary file for your CHR. Try .incbin and see if that changes anything. I ju...

Try storing zeroes into $2000 and $2001 after your cld command. This will make sure that the screen is off. You want the screen to be turned off before doing anything to the PPU. Is that .chr file something drawn in a tile editor? I don't know asm6 really, but I would expect there to be something to...
