Re: Language definitions for syntax highlighting in Notepad+

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but does anyone still have those files? The links are all dead.

Re: Accessing data or "strings" in data segment

The linker can be set to define a label for the end of a segment. Great. I'll look that up then. Look up "LOAD and RUN addresses" in the ld65 Users Guide to see how this works. Do you know the (dd),Y addressing mode? I knew about the addressing mode, but hadn't thought of looking at the manual for ...

Re: Accessing data or "strings" in data segment

You can specify addresses like that if you really want, but (it looks like you are using CA65) you should probably use .res after specifying a zeropage or BSS segment. Plus in your example you are using the stack page, which you shouldn't, unless you know better. ( See here: http://www.cc65.org/doc...

Re: Universal background color

And now that Android has become popular, Java is "in" again. I know, and it makes me sad. XNA will just get you onto Xbox Live Indie Games and Windows Phone 7, both of which are becoming very obsolete very fast. Yeah, I've noticed. But it does let you very quickly create 3D games running in Windows...

Re: Button combo issues

Yep, that was the issue. Hadn't thought of that. Thanks!

Now I have a game that says hello world and that has an LSD trip colored box sprite that can be moved around the screen. 3 days ago I was struggling to even compile the init code. This was a glorious weekend :D

Re: Universal background color

Celius, where I hope to find work in the future, they make software that needs to be as fast and efficient as they possibly can. A lot of people don't seem to care about these things, but some people do.

Button combo issues

I'm having some issues with my controller code. Up, down, left and right all work as they should. Any combination of three buttons or more works as expected (opposite directions cancel each other out, up+down+left+right results in no movement). Down+left and down+right also work as expected. Up+left...

Re: Universal background color

I agree completely, and the reasons you listed above are (not the only reasons, but most of them) why I'm doing this. If all I wanted was to make a game, I'd stick to XNA. If all I wanted was to make a game on the NES, I'd do it in C. I want to know how this thing works on a level where I can unders...

Re: Universal background color

The PPU was trying to offer a lot of functionality with little hardware. I think this is sort of what I was trying to say in my post excusing the strange behavior (I still think it's strange - had this thing been built today, it and its under-the-hood register hocus-pocus might have been more trans...

Alright then, I think that's all I need to know... for now. I'm so excited about finally getting this ball rolling, haha.

Re: Accessing data or "strings" in data segment

It's both encouraging and discouraging, in a way, to see people with a postcount that high be wrong about something like this...

What happens on stack overflow, btw? Does it just wrap back around to $01FF, is there an interrupt, what? Conversely, what happens on stack underflow?

Re: Universal background color

It is a little confusing when you say I should write to $2005 twice and then $2000, and someone else says I should write to $2000 first, then to $2005 twice. Does the order matter or not? (I guess this is the type of thing I wouldn't need to ask if I read the skinny...)

Re: Accessing data or "strings" in data segment

Alright. What about the stack - is it fixed to page 1 or can it be changed somehow? Not that I need to move it, just curious.

And, again, are there other "reserved" pages in those first 2KB of RAM, or just page 0 and 1?
