Re: NESDev Compo Numbering

Is changing the deadline out of the question? If the deadline was some time in the Fall, then it would leave time for people to work on cartridge releases before the holidays. Simply put, it takes a while to get a cart release together. Keep in mind, it is 2019, and the "2017" cart hasn't been rele...

Re: NESDev Compo Numbering

I thinking more along the lines of NDC 5 as an abbreviation, or NDCC 5. Also if we use compo instead of coding competition, then I feel NESDev Compo 5 rolls off the tongue better than NESDev 5 Coding Competition. I also just realized I didn't really post this in a suitable category if someone wants ...

NESDev Compo Numbering

So apparently it has taken 8 years to realize that numbering the competition by year is a bit confusing. Especially when the competition actually ends the year after.... I propose we make it sequential, so it coincides with the Action53 volumes. Please discuss below, or vote in the poll. If anyone h...

Re: Action 53 volume 4

If you made the deadline Dec 31 at midnight, it would be more obvious what year the competition is for (From Jan to Dec!) but you might lose people in the holiday rush. That's why we made it January 31st. I still like the ending date timing wise. People in school don't have to worry about it messin...

Re: Action 53 volume 4

We still might want to consider skipping 2018 and naming current contest 2019 as in recent episodes of The Assembly Line, contest years were commonly misspoken, '18 instead of '17, '17 instead of '16. I wonder if this could be avoided in the future by setting the date back to November or something....

Re: on voting

I did play around with google forms for a while, but I found that survey monkey had a few advantages. I think you can return and change answers after the fact with google, but I don't think it worked as well as the survey monkey one. I'll have to look at add-ons for google forms. If we could get som...

Re: on voting

Ahhh voting... I wish it could be a simple as rating each game out of 10. But do you remember how close all of the games were? And that was with multiple categories! I think there would definitely need to be categories to keep some type of granularity. I'm down for adjusted grading categories, and t...

Re: Action 53 volume 4

While I personally like the bit-boxes, I have a feeling we will get a lot of flack from our primary audience. The people love to have matching sets. *runs away*

Didn't you have a roly poly demo with a grappling hook?

Sorry, I don't know if I quite understand what you are referring to.

Re: 2018 NESDev Compo Rules/Guidelines

I continued development of Super Tilt Bro. (tail of the ladder in 2016). I wonder if it is interesting to you as a remix. As it was not done for the compo, but simply two years of hobby-dev, I would opt-out of any prize. If you are interested I may make an entry thread listing differences since 201...

Re: 2018, what's up?

Deadline will be the same as last year Jan 31st. Main categories will be the same. Basically we are just trying to figure out what the "big picture" is regarding the Full 53 entry compilation cart, and then some prize amounts for multiplayer/remix stuff. I know I said a couple of days, but it's been...
