It is the Soviet Union indeed, sir! Cows and zombie commies are now a full-on part of the game. :-)

Just made a blog post: http://nessylum.wordpress.com/progress-report/

A few folks have been asking me what the status of the game is, so I thought I better drop a quick line for those who are interested. I'd like to get some newer screen shots sometime, but time keeps getting away from me.

Hammer's mounting his comeback career at the Wis. State Fair! Fucking hilarious!! I'm only down with this idea if Ace of Base is one of the bosses. I have no idea why, but when you said "80's and 90's" groups, that group is the first thing that came to mind. Oh, and Taco. Taco better be one of the b...

This looks really cool so far. The generation of the missile's locations and their angles of decent look truly random. Pseudo-random generation was something I had a real pain-in-the-ass time with, myself. Everything's moving pretty smoothly, as well.

Yes, the only difference was I really didn't need to add something, per se, as there was already something there to use (the sleeping variable). Nonetheless it was a helpful suggestion, along with the others. Danke!

Re: Is there anything that could alter an MMC1 reg3 write?

One could argue that dealing with this problem is a part of the learning process... Yep! ... but there are cases when fixing this is very frustrating because it requires great changes in the game's architecture. And yep again. Fixed it! I was reluctant to disable my NMI because I'm doing sprite 0 h...

Re: Is there anything that could alter an MMC1 reg3 write?

Yep, found the problem. Clueless' first hypothesis was correct: Part way through changing the MMC1 bank via the 'lsr, sta' unrolled loop, your code gets interrupted, and the interrupt handler resets the latch, changes banks, does its work, then resets the bank back to what it found on entry. Your "m...

Hey clueless, thanks for the suggestions. Let's see... Could an IRQ or NMI be firing when you don't expect it, and the handler switching banks out from under you (and not restoring them when the handler exits)? Actually, this code is part of the game's sound engine. Specifically, you might say it's ...

Is there anything that could alter an MMC1 reg3 write?

...besides the obvious of doing five more writes to register 3? Or for that matter, is there anything that could cause the MMC1 to ignore a reg3 ($E000-$FFFF) write? And hence ignore a PRG bank switch? I've got this weird crash happening now in my code, caused by the wrong PRG bank being loaded at t...

This is looking damn cool. The music is great! Then again, I wasn't surprised considering this project is coming from the guy who wrote the NA sound tutorials. :-) Can't wait to play it, although I can already tell it's going to kick my ass. My reflexes are a bit slooooow. Hey Metalslime, did you ev...

I'm coming into this thread pretty late so this is probably way off topic (trying to comb through and catch up on all the stuff I haven't had time to read in forever). Anyway, I just wanted to say I tried out the ROM and LOVE the animation! That is solid as hell! Is the mech going to be able to jump...

I'm planning on bringing a 32" TV and NES with PowerPak inserted to demo Assimilate on. I'll also have my laptop and I'll probably be playing a video of Gradualore's Nomolos project on that. We can also run ROMs on my laptop, of course. And we can also load all ROMs on my PowerPak and switch off dem...

Yeah it was sitting in my outbox since yesterday when I sent it. I just finally logged in now and deleted it.
