Re: 2017 NESDev Compo - Rules/Guidelines

Are you sure this is correct?
I honestly hoped for 3rd place at best...
Also, a bit minor thing(probably everyone noticed by now, but in any case): Wolfling screenshot is incorrect(shows alfonzo game).

Re: Hypothetical: Your Dream IP to license

oh, a new Dizzy of course! Even though I hand in restoring Dizzy games before, these weren't new games. Now...what I would do with it... I would probably want to cover biggest problem with Dizzies on NES, namely ability to save(and some nice ending since no dizzy game have a satisfactory ending. Asi...

Re: Progress Thread - Jammin Honey

Yes, the game genie fixed the problem, thank you. My original complaint was due to my(incorrect) assumption that the game suffers from DPCM conflicts. Since it turned out to be AVS quirk, I do not request dougeff to fix it. Im actually agree with Tokumaru on prioritizing original hardware as it push...

Re: Progress Thread - Jammin Honey

I downgraded AVS firmware to previous revisions and didnt help. I also tried downgrading Everdrive firmware. I dont think its a games software glitch since it doesnt happen on emulators. Unfortunelly, I dont have a NES to test it on. I assume its due to DPCM as random inputs seem to happen only when...

Re: issue with ppu drawing vertical tiles

Screen shaking does sound like you run out of vblank time for your updates. You should be able to upload your amount of data quite comfortably, though. In your NMI handler, do you do anything before uploading your data? If so, it may push your updates out of Vblank time. Did you try to upload same a...

Re: Navigation among side-scrolling maps linked at right ang

Your idea of a compass is interesting, but I probably would get lost fast. Fantastic Dizzy(PAL version) presents player a small tunnel map inside a warp. In there, you have a map with player position shown, although it probably wont work in your case. Dizzy 3-3.png Like gauauu said, I probably would...

Re: Progress Thread - Jammin Honey

I like the game. The customization option is very nice I like how you solved "slopes" problem...I tried coding slopes once and it didn't end well :D I quite enjoyed the game overall, although boss battle confused me. Namely, it took me a while to realize I did do damage to the Boss as timer was repl...

Re: Star Evil and F-FF

Star Evil got me :D I wasn't aware of how "adventurous" this game was until Mtee told me "game over" screen is not the end. Even so, I wasnt able to finish it. The game seem to softlock randomly on AVS+Everdrive combo...(can anyone confirm?)...and the player character is animated regardless of what ...

@tepples
I'm sorry. Next time, i'll do it there.

@koitsu
Ahh, I see. I always have temps in ZP, and didn't think about having these in non-ZP.

Sorry for the commotion, will use talk page next time.

Is this info correct?

I was looking at good practices on the wiki when I spotted Use Jump tables with RTS instruction instead of JMP indirect instruction incorrectly page and it says. Savings : 4 bytes, 1 cycle. Now, isnt that wrong? 4 bytes is correct, but there is no saving in cycles. In fact, the alternate piece of co...

Re: Progress Thread -- Super Smash Bros. NES

I was thinking of demaking smash bros myself, but everytime I started thinking about it in depth, I never could map the controls to be comfortable.
I wish you luck, as I'd like to see this completed.

@calima, no, he can still submit it for 2nd category, "anything goes".

Re: Televisions don't like Camerica games

Perhaps Lucas also updated color $0D to $0E while he was making changes. It was $0E when I got the code. Also, third version of Fantastic Adventures Of Dizzy uses $0E instead of $0D as well. Looks like that dizzy game needs a sound fix, just like Dizzy the Adventurer. More specifically, it has the ...

Re: One tile in my metasprite seems "unstuck"

Ok, what you do (in Nmi handler) is that you align the Y coordinate to top left sprite first, and then you move that sprite vartically. This should be other way around. First Move top left sprite then realign other sprites. Also, these are to remember when you'll want to expand your project: -Its go...

Vector Graphics?

Hi, I was having an a argument with a friend about game Elite the point of the argument was whenever Elite uses Vector graphics or not. Shortly after he proclaimed that NES is unable to do any vector graphics. I tried argumenting back (with definitions of vector graphics and even explained how its d...
