Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

Apropos Sound: Did anybody ever verify if the BS-X receiver unit does really connect to the external audio inputs on the SNES expansion port? It probably does so, but there's still at a small chance that the "soundlink" feature was implemented by streaming data to the APU instead of using the exter...

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

Just found out that the digital sub-carrier NTSC system is also from Japan. Explains why MUSE and that one are similar. The reason why I was linking to video transmission: It's mostly because the Satellaview patent mentions it and uses the sound/data transmission part as an exemple. I even suspect t...

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

I don't know where to put it, but I've been looking at satellite broadcasting norms from back then. For the audio capabilities of the Satellaview, I came to this conclusion: It's either 32000 Hz or 48000 Hz. Not in between. I suspect Satellaview uses MUSE as the broadcasting protocol as it was the n...

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

Just for the sake of listing them, here are disassembled updated BS-X BIOS functions (some are related to Memory Packs), found in SRAM dumps: (I suggest getting bsx18.srm from the BS-X SRAMS Dumps 6-26-01 from Matthew Callis) boot_hook: http://pastebin.com/gGHkN4nN nmi_hook: http://pastebin.com/Ee06...

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

That patent is interesting. It shows two different Flash memories: "Flash B" in 図6 which is the the removable data packs, and "Flash A" in 図4 which would have been built into the BS-X cartridge itself. Also, it doesn't say anything at all about battery-backed SRAM. The diagrams showing how the memo...

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

There's a picture that describes the BS-X MMIO, with the register names (it has been rewired a little bit): http://astamuse.com/ja/drawing/JP/0003/615/588/B9/000012.png From this japanese patent: http://astamuse.com/ja/granted/JP/No/3615588 (On BS-X Project website there's other links to other japan...

Re: BS-X Satellaview Datapak's

How did I miss this? Also nice catch about the Type 7. That might be cool to detect when the dump is from a ROM instead of Flash, I guess. bsnes emulates the type 2 flash chip, I guess because it's the simplest protocol to emulate. But one of the third-party forks (not mine) changed it to emulate th...

Re: SuperDisc BIOS released + analysis [attn: nocash]

Btw. is there anything known about the Disc that was found togther with the SNES CD console? Was it dumped? Is it still intact? Does it contain SNES CD software at all (with the SUPERDISC string in volume descriptor on sector 00:02:16? And if so, it would be neat to know if it contains Audio tracks...

Re: SuperDisc BIOS released + analysis [attn: nocash]

Okay, got the thing emulated & documented. Booting from CDROM works fine, and even the Tray eject button is emulated as extra gimmick. Documentation should cover about everything, from component list, memory and I/O map, and volume/bootsector info and specs for the BIOS functions at 00h:Exxxh. For ...

Re: SuperDisc BIOS released + analysis [attn: nocash]

That isn't obfuscated. The bios test function displays all mechacon commands with friendly names, and outgoing hex values, and with expected response hex values in plain text on the TV set. You don't even need to dump the bios cartridge (and least to disassemble the program code) for understanding ...

Re: SuperDisc What exactly doesn't work with the prototype?

Video just shows "We'll need you to do this in order to continue using Google services" preceeded by some non-legible text (probably requesting to eat animals or to buy something new for continuing to use the internet). Anyways, if the video just shows nothing to happen when pushing Eject then it's...

Re: SuperDisc BIOS released + analysis [attn: nocash]

No there's even more, I've just put out a quick album: http://imgur.com/a/2PGcU That webpage shows only 10 images for me (the last two pics being the BIOS cart, and a closeup of the CXDxxx APU chips), then followed by 3 gray fields that do look as they should contain 3 further images. Is that inten...

Re: SuperDisc What exactly doesn't work with the prototype?

This video answers most of your questions: https://youtu.be/JT15xl4ZzOI?t=150 It's the first boot of the system, and also the Self Check. Basically "NO CD-ROM SYSTEM" appears on screen, and they tried to press the Eject button, where absolutely nothing happens. About the Sound, we know that SPC700 t...

Re: SuperDisc BIOS released + analysis [attn: nocash]

Guess we gotta get a Sony CDU33A (perhaps 31A?) PC CD-ROM drive to help on this. There are DOS drivers apparently, maybe that can help by REing those or something? Anyway I asked him for the PCB pics, though I'm gonna have to go soon as I'm in the middle of moving house... Maybe he'll get here and h...
