Re: Another strange piece of Mario trivia

Actually I had read a bit of the original version and that I felt the translation was a bit odd too, thus coming up with my guess.

Re: Another strange piece of Mario trivia

My guess, as the wordings there aren't very clear, the large Mario can't see far ahead thing is not referring to the final game. The large Mario in the real game is already the result of him being shrunken . It's possible that the level drawn on the whiteboard also contained a Mario, but when they c...

Re: Fixing Chinese SMB2J

I think they probably only tested the things with Famiclones. That's why they didn't work without fixing on the real consoles (maybe they're not supposed to work on original consoles anyway as they never expect someone to even play it with the real thing).

Re: Chicken of the Farm

Having a frog as the player and that it's boldly written as "chicken of the farm" in English meant they should know the double meanings. Unless for the former they're actually referring to the boss in the title(not aware that the player character was what it really described), OR, the latter English...

Hehe pretty clever name for the game.

Re: Anyone has a real NTSC Incredible Crash Test Dummies car

Sorry for drifting this away a bit, but as the subject line is now truncated to: Re: Anyone has a real NTSC Incredible Crash Test Dummies car I had hard time figuring out what this thread was about. How can a car be NTSC? Is there a PAL or SECAM car? (Considering the fact that 'car' matches Crash Du...

Re: Asm6 compiling the project

Hmmm. Instead of clicking directly the batch file from a GUI of the O/S, just launch a command/console window, move to the appropriate folder and run the batch file there?

Re: Windows 7 cmd.exe tricks, oddities, and rant

I think the limited offer was just a marketing strategy to trick urge people to upgrade to 10 ASAP so as to boost the number of 10 adopters, regardless of whether they have to pay(again) or not. It is possible that this "offer" was never supposed to expire to begin with.

Re: Best soundtrack?

If non-NES games are also allowed (I meant, games that were only released in Japan for the Famicom): Fantasy Zone (the Japanese version): Triumphs the SMS and the PCE versions (in the PCE version this is THE one aspect that went horribly wrong). Kikikaikai (FDS): Just listen to the opening theme. Li...

Re: Follow up of nes games that never occured

If I remember correctly(or, I'm just making this all up), for video soft in Japan, rental shop can only lend out specific "rental" versions of them (possibly costing a larger licensing fee than just buying a disc of the retail version), and it maybe (I'm not sure) illegal for them to lend out the re...

I see Dragon Quest slimes stacked up on each other. (Before I learned what the slimes really were I called them bottle monsters for obvious reasons.)

NOW I see that thing in the screenshot a slime on top of a SMB/Flappy-Bird pipe.

Re: FAMI-COPY what kind of rom dumper or copy device is this

"ROM Back" I think it could be "ROM Pack" (or quite possibly, "ROM Pak"), but it is a bit hard to tell from the photo. Anyway, supposedly more complete rough translation of the sticker: How to use Family Copy: 1. Plug the game cassette you want to copy into the top socket A. 2. Plug the ROM Pack in...

And the brick wall in the second stage! It no longer looks like a brick wall but... Just look at t...

Re: VRC6 CHR Select and Mirroring

One obvious benefit is that you can bank switch nametables quickly (while using a lot of cart space), like with the CHR patterns.
As far as I remember, After Burner (II) bank-switches nametables for (relatively) quick changing the background to show different banking(pun) angles.
