Re: Bart vs. The Space Mutants was underrated.
Love this game. I've finished it a gazillion times and I explored it so much that I found many of the "mystery items" by myself back in the early 90s. It's silly but until very recently I used to dream that I've found completely new secret stages on this game (these dreams finally stopped after read...

Re: Sorting NES games by generation
It's very hard to define Famicom games' generations - but I'd say there are four:
1- Games from 1983 and 1984
2- Games from 1985 and 1986
3- Games from 1987 to 1989
4- Games from 1990 to 1994

Tcheco in the Castle of Lucio
Hello, Last year I've released my first game, a faux-NES title called "Tcheco in the Castle of Lucio". You can read more about it here: https://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=12939 Now programmer Lukasz Kur ("Famitale", "Wonderland Dizzy", "Dreamworld Pogie") is porting it to the NES. We're s...

Re: Lossy compression for NES screens
Thanks JRoatch for creating (and publishing) this! It's fantastic and is already helping me a lot with a NES project. User NESRocks is also using this - and even created a .BAT to make it easier to use (just drop the BMP file to convert.bat). I'm attaching it here. Are you planning to release a vers...

Re: People to do voices in games
If you intended to include a digitalized speech sample into your NES game, where would you find the person that does the voice? For a NES game I believe you should record the lines yourself. I mean you'll probably read isolated words or small sentences - so (usually!) there's no real need to call s...

Re: NES fighting games
On the NES, I'm of the opinion that the best approach is that used by the pirate Street Fighter III game. Sprites using multiple palettes with some overlaying. Sprites have to be carefully designed to reduce flickering, but the increased amount of colors per character makes all the difference IMO. ...

Re: NES fighting games
I know that the NES has the problem with more than eight sprites on the scanline. But, well, you don't necessarily have to create a game with huge, screen-filling characters. 16 x 32 or 16 x 40 should be big enough for detailed characters. Then you still have two more sprite widths per character fo...

Thank you! I've used NES Screen Tool to draw almost all stages.Espozo wrote:Congratulations! I like how this one actually resembles an NES game in that there aren't 8 parallax layers and 512 colors.

Tcheco - My first video game (now on Steam!) =D
I'm very happy to announce that my first game is finally available on Steam. It's an faux-NES-retro title about finding keys and avoiding enemies. Game is very simple but I did my best to make it fun. At least in Brazil it's one of the cheapest games available on Steam. The game even had a review on...
