Re: [NDS] Bilou School Rush

Looks pretty good! It's nice to see polished homebrew for the NDS. Feels like the heyday for that was mid 2000s/early2010s, so it's great to see people still making things for the handheld. Mostly just wanted to say thanks for your efforts. I'm in the process of improving the NDS core of my emulator...

Re: GB & GBC Games Likely to Fail in your Emulator or Flash

I don't know of any emulator that can touch the Mani 74'161, MCB6 or TAMA5. KiGB, higan, mGBA, and GBE+ can all emulate the MBC6, at least enough to play the only game that uses it (Net de Get: Minigame @ 100). The Flash chip is only used for downloading games, and only GBE+ currently emulates enou...

Re: What NES hardware/software is currently unemulated?

Lots of great responses so far; kudos to everyone for contributing. Still gathering a list for other consoles as well, but when I'm done (or when I think I'm close to done) it'll be public. I'm thinking about making some notes regarding possible misinformation that needs to be corrected. For example...

Re: What NES hardware/software is currently unemulated?

I do have a question: is the focus on every accessory that's unique, or just input/device protocols that are unique? I think it's the latter given the examples given, but I wanted to ask. I meant to put a definition on accessories but couldn't word it correctly earlier. Let me try it this time. I g...

Re: What NES hardware/software is currently unemulated?

Thanks for the insight, Sour! I'm not looking to do any NES work myself, just trying compile a list for others who want to tackle it. I got my hands full reverse-engineering Game Boy stuff at the moment  Never heard about the Study Box though, that's definitely the kind of obscure stuff I need...

What NES hardware/software is currently unemulated?

I'm compiling a list for various systems regarding hardware and software that's currently not emulated at all, or it's not sufficiently emulated to be considered "preserved" i.e. people of the future could play it and have a decent idea of the original experience, more or less. By that definition, I...

Re: What are the pins of a Game Boy cartridge for?

It is possible that the Pocket Sonar could have used it, but I'm skeptical I can confirm it doesn't use VIN (or Audio In, or PIN 31, or whatever else it could be called.) I opened mine last week and took some pictures of the PCB. I sent them to gekkio, but I'll post them here too: https://mega.nz/#...

Re: GB & GBC Games Likely to Fail in your Emulator or Flash

The way I handle unique mappers that can't be ID'd via the header is to have the user manually specify which one they want to use before my emulator runs via a simple drop-down list. For example, MBC1M (the multicart variants of the MBC1) and MMM01 carts are done like this in GBE+. Most recently, I'...

I'll start taking a look this weekend. Not sure how much I can help, but I'll try.

I'd be willing to take a look. No promises, but I'll take a peek when you're ready.

Re: What are the limits for what the GBC can draw?

Man. Eight color palettes per layer. 256 more tiles. Palettes can use any 15-bit color. You can regularly get away with more than 8 BG and 8 OBJ palettes per-frame. It's possible to transfer new palettes during H-Blank, so once you reach a certain screen line, say like Line 20, you can setup all ne...

Re: GBC to GB?

Ehhhhh, you're giving gamedevs too much credit here. It's entirely believable that in many cases they looked at the size of the mono GB market vs. the GBC-only market and decided that it wasn't worth any extra effort (or ROM space) to build an engine that works for both - regardless of whether or n...

I don't really have much to say besides that it looks pretty good. This is your first attempt at seriously diving into Game Boy (DMG) homebrew right? Very nice so far.

Re: Blank main menu in Spot (that 7up game)

Alright, I figured out what it was, at least in GBE+. I still have a lot of holdovers from when I first started, which means timing is off in GBE+ every now and then. Slight inaccuracies don't affect overall compatibility except in limited cases. Spot happens to be an edge case where it's sensitive ...
