Re: Your NES emulator of choice?

Some of my favorite fceux debugger features: 1. Conditional breakpoints...this is huge 2. Being able to step into out of and over routines. Typical debugger stuff. 3. Right-Click clicking on current location take you directly to the rom location where you can edit the rom using the built in hex edit...

Re: Your NES emulator of choice?

I think its more reasonable to say people don't necessarily care about small differences in accuracy MOST of the time. At that point everything else becomes more important. When they are concerned they will check things on a more accurate emulator/real hardware. A somewhat apt analogy is why Ipod's ...

Re: Your NES emulator of choice?

1. FCEUX - debugging, hacking, playing 2. Nestopia - Really only use this for 2 player netplay gaming only these days. The Tecmo Super Bowl community uses this with kaillera peer to peer to play games against each other. 3. Mesen - keeping this on my watch list due its growing list of features. Haven'...

If the wiki is right then " IRQ Counter ($5203) = All eight bits specify the scanline number to generate IRQ at When the MMC5 detects a scanline, the following events occur: if the In Frame signal is clear, set it, reset the IRQ counter to 0, and clear the IRQ Pending flag otherwise, increment the I...

Re: Reason for multiple writes to PPUADDR after buffer trans

The game in question is Tecmo Super Bowl. I have it basically 95+% commented and reverse engineered at this point. That was one of the few things I wasn't quite sure what the purpose was especially with both writes back to back.

Re: Reason for multiple writes to PPUADDR after buffer trans

I understand why it is/might be necessary do the second write of all zeroes to PPUADDR. The write of $3F00 seems totally unneeded unless I'm misunderstanding something.

This is actually code from a commercial game.

Reason for multiple writes to PPUADDR after buffer transfer

Not exactly sure what the purpose of this is after reading through various docs. Maybe someone else can help. This is from an MMC3 game after transferring the buffer data to the PPU LDA #$00 ; SET BUFFER LENGTH/TYPE = EMPTY STA $037D ; ; DUMMY WRITES? LDA #$3F ; SET PPU ADDRESS TO $3F00 = PAL RAM ST...

Did nintendo download a rom and sell it back to consumers

If true this is pretty hilarious/hypocritical. Ines header shows up in the super mario downloaded file via wii.

Re: FCEUX feature request

Good point koitsu. And thanks for pointing out the feature in Mesen. I had forgotten to check mesen.

Rainwarrior that build of fceux should be good enough for me. Thanks

FCEUX feature request

Is it possible to add a a attribute table grid overlay option to the nametable viewer. That would make it easier/faster to see which tiles are part of which attribute table entry.

Or maybe add the attribute table address of the current part of the screen you are hovering over.

Re: AVS for NES dev?

The other thing to think about is what % of the people you want to sell this to will still be using an original NES to play the game vs some other clone (retron, AVS, etc).

Mine is pretty obvious...I make "new" aka fresh hacks for a certain game.

Re: "Palette swapping" now VS palette swapping then

From the wiki: " Each sprite can use the three colors from one of the sprite palettes. The choice of palette is in attribute 2 of each sprite Sprites in the NES can use one of 4 possible sprite color SETS" You can change("swap") an entire 16 byte SPRITE color set or a just certain colors during vbl...
