Thank you for the people who helped me get this prototype done.
For context I have a Reddit post of my project aswell
https://www.reddit.com/r/nesclassicmods ... onrequest/
(The first 4 replies to this post was before the change)

Instead of making a new post. I decided to change this post.

I've made a basic homebrew NES rom that is made to proceed other roms.
The idea is I want my rom to open up another game similar to how collection roms work(ie those bootleg #in1 roms)

I made this rom using C(cc65) and still have the source code.

It might be good to note that I didn't have any experience with C prior to starting this project so my knowledge is fairly minimum.

In assembly you could write a number representing a character in the password of every character in the password, then write those numbers to the external RAM in the cartridge, and depending on the number of the character, it will increment another memory address, and depending on the sum of all the numbers, it will load data from a certain memory location.

You can save up to 40 bits in an 8-character password: 32 payload bits and 8 check bits. I made a password save demo years ago.

If you're putting on the NES classic does it need to be a ROM? Couldn't you make a frontend app with a password protection mechanism instead?

That is an idea I haven't thought about.
Although I've never added anything other then NES roms using Hakchi.

I could try researching it.
Though I am wondering how much data this would consume.
I would have to create a copy of the program before each rom.
The NES Classic has 900MB of space I believe.
