I would like to have a health meter, or a number of hit points display somewhere constantly on my screen. What do you guys think the simplest way to do this would be? Obviously the health variable will be constantly changing (wouldn't be much of a game otherwise), so should I do this with sprites, or with background tiles? Should I take an approach like in L0pin's previous post with his score?

Also, would I correlate what is displayed with the value of the variable? Maybe use the variable as a loop value so if it is #5, loop and print 5 tiles of "health meter" on the screen?

How do you guys think I should go about this?

Mega Man series displays its health meter with sprites. TMNT 2 and 3 display theirs with background tiles.

Make a PNG mockup of what you want to do, and we'll more easily explain how to implement it.
