People got new TVs since 1992 and want a system that works on a contemporary flat panel display. Scaling options exist but they tend to be fairly expensive and add lag.
Some people still want analog video output too. =)

Calling these things "useless fakes" just shows you have some sort of anger directed toward them. They certainly aren't useless. And I don't see how they are fake as they aren't trying to be passed off as original systems. There were actually pirate clone systems that were packaged to look like the real thing and could be called fakes. If you don't like these new FPGA consoles, then don't buy one.

Perhaps "useless" was meant in the sense that it'd be too easy to write a program that works on one of these but inadvertently fails on an authentic Super NES.

Time will tell if these systems have such issues. But unlike the original silicon these FPGA designs could always be updated to iron out issues. Hopefully they won't have such problems with accuracy. But even then it's not like the gold standard (original hardware) is going to all disappear right when these become available. But the time to develop a replacement is now, before the originals are gone.

What Nintendo should have done is released an updated hdmi snes and not the snes classic.

Thankfully we have people doing what Ninten-don't.

I meant exactly that.
If one makes a hardware clone it should be good.
What reason to make another hardware emulator made "by symptoms" of the work of the original console.
The symptomatic approach has already been satisfied by a lot of people.
A very good emulator but still an emulator.

The analog output is cool and I need it as well as the digital one.

By the way why not to use Retron 2 (or 3 I don't remember which one is a full hardware based clone of SNES).
Does it have any problems?

You mean "symptomatic" in the sense of empirical evidence of accuracy through black-box testing, correct?

As I understand it, you'd prefer a hardware clone based on white-box methods: have S-CPU, S-PPU1, S-PPU2, S-SMP, and S-DSP decapped, photographed on each layer, and traced, and then publish the result. From this, one could derive a netlist provably equivalent to the circuits in a Super NES Control Deck.

There are already a lot of software-based "black boxes" and even one hardware-based "black box" and one is coming.

It's needed at least one good "white box".

I guess it hasn't happened yet because it's too difficult to make such "white box".
It seems that's impossible to do by one person.

Any chance you can help with the SD2SNES project and get more special chips programed for them?

Hi! Kevin's system has no bearing on my plans. You might want to read back on the thread a bit. When I'm ready I'll be starting a crowdfunding campaign to get the entire SNES open sourced along with other goodies as well. ;) My consultant business is swamped with other IP dev work right now so that's taking priority, but don't worry, it'll happen!

This would be the greatest thing ever. An snes flash cart with compatibility for SA-1 and Super FX.
