Making Your First SNES ROM

I'm thinking of getting into SNES programming, but I'm not quite sure where to start with my first program. I would want a tutorial that demonstrates, say, putting a background and a sprite on the screen and moving on from there. I looked at documents regarding the 65816 (or is it the 65c816?) and SNES registers, and I made my first library file for initializing the SNES. Unfortunately, as I've never used them for anything, the registers mean little to me. Perhaps if I get a tutorial about "Making Your First SNES ROM," I could be propelled a little better?

I've downloaded the starter kit too, seems to be pretty handy, especially the pcx converter. But I didn't do much assembler yet and although the code is well commented, I cannot really use it to start snesdeving with. Isn't there some more basic tutorial without extern assembler files which really does only the things that are needed to make it run? Or is the SNES really that more difficult to initialize and handle than the NES?

The info in yoshi's doc is very helpful, although quite old. (anything newer and better?)

But as far as a simple starter package goes, from what I've found this is the best you'll get right now.
