proposed improvments to Namco 163 wiki entry

Post by Oziphantom »

On https://wiki.nesdev.com/w/index.php/Namco_163
The Namco 129 and 163 with expansion sound are assigned to iNES Mapper 19
could be updated to be
The Namco 129 and 163, both with expansion sound are assigned to iNES Mapper 19.
to make it more clear that the 129 also has "163 audio"
also
The 163 has 19 registers within $4800-$5FFF and $8000-$FFFF, while the the 175 and 340 only have 12.
could be updated to say how many registers the 129 has.

On https://wiki.nesdev.com/w/index.php/Namco_163_audio
The page name could be update to also include 129, or at least the page should mention the 129 in the openning line
The Namco 163 offers up to 8 additional sound channels that play wavetable samples while the 175 and 340 do not.
for example
The Namco 163 and 129 offer up to 8 additional sound channels that play wavetable samples while the 175 and 340 do not.
It seems to control the sound expansion you need to use the 128bytes of extra RAM via the data port, but if the 129 doesn't have the RAM? Then how does the 129 version work? And if the 129 does have the RAM, how is it different?

(Repeating myself, since the answer to your questions here is identical to there)
The 129 is "just" a buggy version of the 163. It doesn't have a functioning wavetable synth, but is otherwise identical.

I've edited the lede on the wiki to state this up-front.
