Gimmick! maps ROM to 6000, but that's technically not FME-7.

Take Mr. Gimmick, then.

Why would Nintendo want to stop Game Genie? This device added a lot of value to their system and games.

Incumbent copyright owners value creative control over the works whose copyrights they own. They even regularly make a business decision to leave money on the table to assure future control.

Yeah, Nintendo might have considered even the losing lawsuit worthwhile just to establish some precedent/boundaries for how strong a Game Genie type device's capabilites could be.

Hrm, I kinda wonder how much of the insanity/inanity of the modern software EULA is due to the success of the Game Genie.

Which makes me wonder why Nintendo never tried making games with a "Genie-proof" memory map like one of these:

Since Nintendo had to make every NES cart, first party or not, is it possible the overhead with switching to those boards would have exceeded the 15M+ they had to pay Galoob? Even if (not 100% sure since I'm not a hardware guy) existing boards could be reconfigured for that purpose.
