I don't want to become the victim of assault and battery for having published an iNES file that hasn't been tested on real hardware. Until Squeedo comes out, I can test NES ROMs on real hardware only by sending a copy to a trusted party on this board, but the logistics of that method limits such testing to happen only occasionally and never in person. So until this situation improves, is there a better emulator than Nintendulator for testing scrolling engines?

My opinion is a bit biased, but I would certainly give my emulator a try. Even though it does not have many features, it does emulate some of the trickiest games / demos out there, like the Retrocoders - Years Behind demo, which almost no emulator can run properly. It has been updated just today, so feel free to try it out and suggest changes.

Emulators were written by humans, and humans are susceptible to errors. Asking for the "best emulator than X" is quite an harsh question. :(

Can't you give a try by yourself? Download the top-10 active emus (if 10) and take your conclusions.

That almost sounds like a defense of Nesticle :)

However, "which emulator in the experience of other NESdev members has fewest differences from the NES hardware?" is still a valid question, right?

No, because as I said, I have no rewritable NES cartridge to put in my NES to compare the behavior of the "top ten emulators" to. Therefore, I must rely on the opinions of other NESdev members who have had an opportunity to test homebrew ROMs and make such a comparison.

What is NESticle? ;)
Anyway, even the 'top-emulator' has bugs. :P

Which are they? Known bugs are a lot easier to work around in my code than unknown bugs.
