Hey.
Just thought I'd let you all know that I've started assembling a snesdev wikibook and there is room for a nesdev one right beside it.

chekkidout: http://en.wikibooks.org/w/index.php?title=Console_Game_Programming

BTW, I'm just getting into snes programming, and writing this book as I go. Feel free to help out.

A simple memory map would fit nicely in the first few lessons. Something along the lines of:
Code:
CPU space (directly accessible):
$0000 - $07FF  2KiB  Built-in RAM (freely read/write)
$2000 - $2007        Video registers (special functions)
$4000 - $401F        Sound and Gamepad registers (special functions)
$6000 - $7FFF  8KiB  Optional on-cartridge RAM (freely read/write)
$8000 - $FFFF 32KiB  Program ROM [PRG-ROM] (read-only)

PPU space (accessible through $2006 and $2007):
$0000 - $1FFF  8KiB  Pattern tables (ROM or RAM, depending on cartridge type)
$2000 - $27FF  2KiB  Name and Attribute tables (internal RAM)
$3F00 - $3F1F        Palettes (internal RAM)

Sprite space (accessible through $2003, $2004, and $4014):
$00 - $FF  256B  Sprite data

along with an explanation that all code is stored in the PRG-ROM, variables and RAM tables have to be manually initialized, Name tables need to be set up, and so on.
