My first demo based on the menu from a Unchained Melody multicart.

What's changed?
  • All unused code was removed
  • Changed control logic, improved responsiveness
  • Added clouds and stars
  • Fixed some graphical glitches
  • Added fading effect
  • Improved compression for name tables (improved RLE, 22% better, without performance regressions)

Download: http://veg.by/files/nes/unchained_nostalgia.zip (20KiB). I hope you will like it.

Wow, that's pretty! What is this exactly? A menu?

It's the extracted background and music from the main menu from a bunch of pirate multicarts that all seemed to rip off each other. Whoever made the original one put a lot of effort into it.

I wonder what kind of music would go well with xkcd Time, and I wonder how much Randall Munroe would charge. Or I wonder what it would take to make a timeline-based editor for NES sprite and background animations that play alongside a menu.

Pretty, but could you possibly get rid of "blinking" where whole screen get black fro about one frame?

There is no "blinking". It's fast fade-out and fade-in effect for background (about 9-10 frames).

I've updated archive. Now it contains also Unchained Melody NSF that plays like on a Famiclone (for what this multicart was intended). Its size is just 4 kilobytes.

Thank you for this demo, VEG
I'm intrigued by this:
Quote:
* The secret mode of the Universe control (but don’t tell about it to your psychiatrist).
* The super secret mode of proud birdie with special effects from the legendary Michael Bay.

Unchained Nostalgia v1.3.1 [2016/10/14]

Corrected v1.3.0 regression causing floating tempo of the music on accurate emulators and real hardware.
