Making an NES Family BASIC cartridge?

Post by HVC-Man » Fri Oct 14, 2016 4:27 pm

By this I mean starting with an NES NROM PCB.

http://wiki.nesdev.com/w/index.php/NROM

According to that page, Family BASIC V1 is just an NROM game with 2KB PRG RAM decoded with a 74HC20, also a switch for write protection on the PRG RAM. Has anyone ever tried making such a cartridge? I'm tempted to try just for the fun of it.

I think no-one's bothered because it's not very useful without the keyboard. But I agree that it should be awfully easy.

If 8K RAMs are as available to you as 2K RAMs you might make a Family BASIC v3 repro instead.
