RetroUSB Gradius 2 repro

Post by TR3KT »

Has anyone dumped a Gradius 2 reproduction cart? (from retroUSB)

The site (listed here: http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.ph ... cts_id=112) says that it works on PAL consoles and i would like to get it for this reason.

This topic links to another topic i made a while ago: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=14987.

Tried asking bunnyboy for details? Given that it's a discontinued product, he might be willing to give out details + code patches. Friendly guy, just ask. :)

Just curious, how in the world is this being sold? Did Konami express permission for the resale of these? Given how often IP ownership comes up on this board, I'm surprised to not see these repros further discussed.

RetroUSB used to be in the pirate repro business. It no longer is, as far as I know.

It might be worth noting that the same "Works on authentic Nintendo Systems including NTSC, PAL A, PAL B, and Asian systems." description appears on all of RetroUSB's NES cart listings, and it's more likely referring to the hardware and lockout chip compatibility than any code changes made to the software.

Well, i was looking at their other carts and their prototype Mr. Gimmick (NTSC NA unreleased version) repro specifically states that it will glitch up on PAL consoles. http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.ph ... cts_id=105.

Gradius 2 webpage says it works on everything (PAL, NTSC, Famiclone) meaning they could have fixed the game breaking raster issues that VRC games caused by PAL consoles by using some form of console detection.

He's very often on IRC #nesdev on EFNet. I've always found that the easiest way to get a hold of him.

Why would you want to play Gradius 2 on a PAL console anyway? :3
