Over the past week, I've been improving Thwaite (GitHub; previous topic) toward the remix compo.

  • Use more libraries shared by my other games, in their own segment
  • Compress dialogue and other text using DTE, freeing about 1 KiB. About 1400 bytes of PRG ROM are free if I keep it within NROM-128.
  • Eliminate use of deprecated PackBits library
  • Pan over the whole town during cutscenes

Anyone want to help me out? Some of these tasks need no coding skills.

  • Graphical improvements
  • Dialogue, including revamping the ending
  • Imagine something for NPCs to do during cut scenes
  • Write new 1 AM theme so as not to repeat 4 AM
  • Code review to find space or time inefficiencies or The Daily WTF-worthy problems
  • Play testing to find suggestions for things I could improve

I drew animation frames for NPCs in cut scenes back in 2011, but I never figured out what to do with them.

Hey! I just wrote a little 5/8 tune using the instruments on the original .ftm.
I don't know how fitting it is to the game, but feel free to use it ;)

I like it. Thanks. I can see using it for a future project.

But your suspicion was correct that it doesn't fit the style of Thwaite, which is ambient music that might be played during the early morning in a laid back social simulator, Notice how everything else in the game is 100 BPM and swung, or 300 rows per minute, and most tracks have the snare on the third beat so it almost sounds like 50 BPM. But thanks anyway for inspiring me to put the style down in writing.

Ah, that's okay!
Well... I wrote a new track. Hopefully, this one fits the style you're going for better ;)
