The game features birds in space and is a combination of Joust and some elements from Mega Man.

Engine is based on Böbl, which allowed us to make pretty quick progress so far.

More info will follow.

------------------
EDIT: Here we go! Got a couple of bugs to fix, but we're very tired right now. Encountered a crash towards the end of the game in our final playthrough, but it doesn't always seem to happen.

A - Jump
A (tap repeatedly) - Fly
B - Not used
Jumping on enemies damages them

Reminds me of joust!

Or maybe flappy bird in space?

If it shows promise to be a worthy spiritual successor to Balloon Kid/Hello Kitty World, I'm all for it.

We decided to throw in a second bird for (optional) 2-player co-op.

There's a slightly longer video here.

The time constraints are really scary. We'll have to wrap this up asap, hopefully getting to do some light polishing and bug fixing.

Balloon Kid GB is a fantastic game! I'm afraid this won't be too reminiscent of it, though.

Really cool game! The physics is fun... the difficulty is... challenging ;)
All I need: A damn fine cup of coffee!

Hi everyone, I'm new on this board.

Really cool game. The graphics and physics are very nice.

I made a quick cover. Nothing special.

Very nice!

The first time I got to this room, one of the enemies and the key were missing:

These did appear after I died and came back a second time. I've attached a Mesen video of this occurring (as well as a longer video of my whole playthrough).

I think the only nit I'd want to pick is that I land halfway into the half-platforms quite a bit, especially where space is restricted.

After playing this game, I have one (personal) problem with it: When you leave your Spacegull house - the music starts playing. Let's say you're not feeling so adventurous that day, and you decide to go back to the house to watch some tv. the music should stop playing, so you can kick back and watch some tv, no?

Now on a more serious note, an actual game bug:

If you fly towards the ceiling when you go through the door to the spaceship, you'll get trapped (see pic). If you jump a few times you'll be outside of the walls. Then, if you go up one screen, the game will crash.
Here's a piccy:

I made a little video showing how to cause the glitch (see previous post.)
For miau: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQTi-ErGcAw

Just thought I should point this out:
I do a lot of state loading in this video: for example, when the bug crashes the machine or if I make it through the door successfully.

best regards,

Lastly, 2 small bugs that probably won't matter much..
after you beat the end boss, and his ship disappears:
1: the blue platform on the right side disappears, but the bird can still land on it. the blue platform on the left side is there, but the bird can't land on it.

2: when you go down the hole in the middle of the screen & then fly back up, the boss re-spawns. but now you can't battle him again since you are underneath.

Just as an FYI, I'm running this as a "Learn Fast Race" right now! Everyone has one hour to learn the game, then they race it -- they're all coming in blind. Twitch.tv/Overswarm

If the devs are interested in seeing how 4 speedrunners learn and race it (including one of the top bobl runners), let me know and I'll send you guys a vod of the race after it is finished.

Here's a vod of the Learn Fast Race:
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/941292238?t=1h15m54s

Everyone came in blind, had an hour to practice, then ran the game.

You can see the speedrun board here:
https://www.speedrun.com/spacegulls#any

I'd highly recommend checking out the "1 player 2 controller" category -- the speedrun is under a minute and a half!
