Since we were talking about fighting games in the other thread, something came to my mind: Are there any one-on-one fighting games where a movie or an anime (or maybe just a comic) was made that's actually faithful to the game?

"Mortal Kombat" came pretty close with the overall setting and premise being spot-on. If they had changed some details (Scorpion and Sub-Zero working for Shang Tsung, Liu Kang being a doubter in the beginning, the whole story about his dead brother, Shang Tsung being comparably young and looking totally different etc.), this movie could have been the authentic canon version of the first game.

The "Street Fighter" movie on the other hand has almost nothing to do with the game.

There was a manga that was much closer, displaying the tournament and all, but it still took a lot of liberties. (Ken being brainwashed and joining Shadoloo. Blanka working for the bad guys etc.)

I don't know much about the other fighting games.

So, would you say that there's a game where some additional movie or comic could actually serve as the way the plot of the game is supposed to have been played out?

If I had the resources (i.e. one billion dollars), I would love to create an anime of "Street Fighter II" that's really in line with the game.

This is probably the most faithful you will get.

I dunno, I'd say Street Fighter: The Movie was pretty faithful to Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game.

Not even that. I mean, I don't remember Ryu throwing fireballs in the movie.

There was an awkward hit on a bad guy's chest with Ryu's hands roughly in the position of a Hadouken, and Ken hitting another bad guy with a lame rotating uppercut that slightly resembled a Shouryuuken, IIRC, but that was actually worse than nothing at all, IMO. Actually, I don't think that movie had ANY energy attacks whatsoever, which is a very bad call for a Street Fighter adaptation. On the other hand, Dhalsim did have his hands chained to his neck, suggesting he was able to stretch his limbs like in the game, so they weren't exactly getting rid of everything supernatural... Go figure.
