When I tried to setup a 1365x980 (4x using 4:3 aspect) in windowed mode, Allegro gave me an error.
All the others work fine (2x and 3x).
Code:
Error:
Unable to find a suitable graphics driver
(WINDOWED, 1365 x 960)

Suggestions?

Shot in the dark, but maybe it wants the width/height to be an even number (1364 or 1366), or a multiple of some number (like 4).

Perhaps...

256x240 (original) -> x4 = 1024x980 -> x4:3 -> 1365,33 x 1280

It worked with 1364 and 1368 but not with 1365, 66 or 67.

Thank you. 8-) I still wonder WHY... since the Allegro's gfxinfo tool says "This is a windowed mode driver. You can use any resolution you want".

What color depth are you using? 8 or 32? If 8, perhaps the hardware requires the window size to be a multiple of the machine word size, which is 32 bits. Otherwise, is Allegro 4 still on topic at the official board?

The following is unrelated to the lack of support for non-multiple-of-four window widths, but let me try to reverse your formula:

PPU output: 256x240
4x magnification: 1024x960
Pixel aspect ratio 4:3: 1365x960

Where are you getting 4:3 PAR? NTSC is 8:7. Are you trying to approximate PAL PAR, which is close to 1.3862:1?

PAL PAR is exactly 2950000/2128137 because unfortunately, 64489 won't divide out.
