That reaction is the very thing that causes the Streisand effect to happen.
Also, good luck with an international suit.
And identifying the defendant.
And if the license explicitly prohibits pornographic use, it might be one of the few instances where pornography of a subject would actually be defensible as parody.

Re: Software licenses that ban porn and blasphemy
I don't think google searches must be anything other than a working business model, within constraints of law. Besides, it took me like 15 pages of pic searching for sonic and tails before i found something that could be described as an intimate depiction suggesting anything remotely romantic. Which would be wrong how?
It's a commonly reiterated trope that children are naturally innocent. I'd suggest children are naturally curious, and competent. At learning. Discerning. Testing. Reading the context. Orienting.
Furry is widely known for being part of the kink scene. I'm pretty sure that's known within puberty lore. Which means, when kids get curious, they're going to google for it when they want to and interact in ways they'd want to, regardless what parents may think is best for them or not. I wouldn't worry. Exploring erotic themes, roles and personas on internet is mostly a lot safer than doing it irl. Some potential threats may have accelerated with the medium, but i think kids are better off than the pre-internet generations when that wasn't an option.
On the original topic:
I'd think such a license would only work well within a community with a strong common code, like, say, a particular church, or a separatist village, or the like. As a social contract. We do this, but not that. How could one keep track if that is followed through on something as vast, bubbled and diverse as the internet?

Re: Software licenses that ban porn and blasphemy
Anyways, so let me conclude.
I should use a copyleft or a shareware open-source license like Minecraft's for my game. The license should say that all the characters can be used only under the terms and conditions of their licenses and that the characters' licenses cannot be affected by the game's license unless the licensor of the character wants to do so. My characters will have a license against P&B. That's it.
Is this all?

Even the GPL can't stop Fair Use.

It's sad that porn is Fair Use while fan characters aren't.
Re: Software licenses that ban porn and blasphemy
I honestly thought you were joking at first. That's hilarious, porn is inevitable and just saying "no porn pls" is a surefire way of convincing someone to do the opposite, imagine with drawing attention to yourself with a barely enforceable license.8bitMicroGuy wrote:Aaaaand I'd sue you and petition that furry porn gets banned from Google searches.pubby wrote:If I was a furry porn artist and I heard that some guy was releasing a game with a "NO PORN; ONLY CHRISTIAN IMAGES" license, you can damn well be sure I'd pump out as many furry porn parodies as possible. .
Doing a lawsuit is the equivalent of announcing that you're holding a rule 34 fanart competition with a 5+ digit money donation for a random law firm.
Best thing you can do is to abandon that silliness. The chances of a singular porn drawing to be created are very small if you don't draw the attention of any artist with your enforced by a Readme.txt moral compass.

Adult artwork generally stays in its own corner of the internet, provided you have age-appropriate filters turned on in Google and such. If you're polite about it, you can indicate that you're ok with family-friendly fan-works and politely discourage adult-oriented fanart, but if you try to go crazy and threaten people with lawsuits and such, people are going to see you as a fanatic and won't take you seriously.
It also needs to be said that there's a line to be drawn regarding responsibility. It's our responsibility to make sure our conduct and content is age-appropriate for where we are. However, it's a parent's responsibility to make sure their children are being properly supervised when they browse the internet. That means content filters, site filters, things like that.

Posting again now my post with 666 count is offpage…
Of course, if you're routinely searching for porn with Google, it'll adapt its output like it does with any other historical searches.Drag wrote:Adult artwork generally stays in its own corner of the internet, provided you have age-appropriate filters turned on in Google and such.
Even if it's for moral outrage purposes.

"Impure things"? I thought at first this was a joke post, then I kept reading. This is like reading a parody account imitating Ned Flanders.8bitMicroGuy wrote:Floraverse has impure things? I hadn't known! Alright, no more Floraverse for me.
Requesting "please don't do this extremely specific tacky thing" is going to have it done tenfold. Personally, I think the hacks with shitty lewd/furshit/whatever edits are tacky and embarrassing, but I wouldn't be foolish enough to tell people what and what not to do with it.

Re: Software licenses that ban porn and blasphemy
In a game where you can design your own character under the game's art style, I'd like to license the character style to the player and let them own the character, but I wouldn't like to allow porn. I'd like to say that porn is outside of the scope of the license which means that the pornographic drawing cannot have the game's art style which is copyrighted to me. Now that threatening would be too nasty, I'd like to just politely say that it's not okay to draw such things and that I cannot and do not support them, but as long as they keep it outside of the reach of children through Google, we can be in peace. If someone starts publishing that on public places that can be searched on Google with a filter, well that's no good. I'll have to report such content. I cannot let children's eyes get corrupted so easily by searching my game's name. It's already enough (and too much even) that one searches for "furry" or "anthro" or similar to get such results. Because of that, my online furry* friends' parents don't trust me when trying to meet up with them to work on game projects or to have fun like real life friends. The parents think that furries* are sexual deviants. I'm even scared sharing my cute cuddly art with people in real life because I can just imagine my reputation being destroyed upon someone searching for "furry" and gossipping. I always gotta say that I like this "anthro style" and never say that magic word "furry" or I gotta say that there's this nasty part of the internet that makes porn of everything according to the "rule 34" and then tell them what I want. It's all because the search results have been defiled. Heck, I cannot even show cats licking each other's fur and face and paws and tail because the term "lick" will give pornographic results or at least some kind of a disgusting fetish with dirt and quicksand and whatnots. I had 26 cats and they cuddled so cutely and warmly. I'd like to share that without getting a reuptation of being some kind of a freak just because the verbs and nouns that I use have been defiled. This is why I need to say that porn is bad. I've decided to not be threatening, but if someone starts deliberately promoting porn in front of children, well I'll gotta do what I'll gotta do. I don't like lawsuits or SOPA, PIPA, ACTA and etc., but I gotta protect my cute ideals from mixing with impurities. I hope you understand now.
*furry = fan of anthropomorphics that identifies with that term. To clear up language ambiguity, in Esperanto, it would be "felano" (member of fur) and not "felulo" (fur-man)

Not wanting that association is understandable and fine. The issue that many are going to find is the way you are trying to go about it. If you don't want a search for your game returning inappropriate content, then don't bait people into making it. That wasn't your intent, but trying to enforce it in a written agreement is going to make it much worse.8bitMicroGuy wrote:In a game where you can design your own character under the game's art style, I'd like to license the character style to the player and let them own the character, but I wouldn't like to allow porn. Thanks, I would have had no idea what this meant if you didn't say it in Esperanto.8bitMicroGuy wrote: *furry = fan of anthropomorphics that identifies with that term. To clear up language ambiguity, in Esperanto, it would be "felano" (member of fur) and not "felulo" (fur-man)

If you had 26 cats, that would probably give you a reputation of being a freak without the help of rule 34 online content. Not 26 cats at the same time, but there was a mother cat who gave birth 6 times and each birth had about 5 kittens. We'd give the kittens to our friends who wanted to have a cat. But I got a cat scratch illness and became permanently allergic to cats so we had to give all the cats to other people.nitro2k01 wrote:If you had 26 cats, that would probably give you a reputation of being a freak without the help of rule 34 online content.
