Nintendo switch gets hacked with webkit exploit
Apparently, the Nintendo Switch has been hacked by someone who exploited a security hole in webkit. So they did put a minimal web browser in there after all.
Here come the fortune cookies! Here come the fortune cookies! They're wearing paper hats!
Re: Nintendo switch gets hacked with webkit exploit
That was quick. Do we have homebrew yet, or was the browser sufficiently isolated?
edit: Oh, it's FreeBSD. That's good considering the PS4 state.

Smea's tweet from a couple of months back seems relevant enough.

"new business model: report all webkit vulns in bug database from 2011 to Nintendo and make $200 a pop"

Re: Nintendo switch gets hacked with webkit exploit
Nintendo's bounty program expects a working exploit. And pays like shit too, things like the gstreamer snes vuln were reported to have offers of 30k by private parties. If someone had Switch code execution, and wanted to profit instead of/in addition to fame, just release some hard to spoof video proof and wait.
Re: Nintendo switch gets hacked with webkit exploit
smea's comment was obviously tongue-in-cheek. The point is that anything that's using an old version of Webkit will have a bunch of freebie userland vulns.
Re: Nintendo switch gets hacked with webkit exploit
I know. My point being, if Nintendo wanted bugs reported to them, they should pay the going rate.
Re: Nintendo switch gets hacked with webkit exploit
It might save this failure of a system, ha.
Re: Nintendo switch gets hacked with webkit exploit
Actually rumors so far says the system was extremely successful, no regards to your or my personal opinion.3gengames wrote:It might save this failure of a system, ha.
Re: Nintendo switch gets hacked with webkit exploit
Hahaha, that's a joke. System is DOA. Will never have support from 3rd parties. It can have the greatest launch of all time, outsell any system made in the first weeks, and still die because of no support. And with that hardware, which is fragile, buggy, and a WiiU 2. It's dead.
Now make a good console, Nintendo. This could be your last try.

Re: Nintendo switch gets hacked with webkit exploit
Nintendo surely knows how to create hype, and all that hype has given the Switch a pretty good jump start so far, but there's still a lot that can go wrong if Nintendo doesn't deliver everything that was promised.

"DOA" refers to what happens "On Arrival". So, uh, I guess?3gengames wrote:the greatest launch of all time, outsell any system made in the first weeks
Assuming corporations will actively let money-making opportunities pass them by? I saw that 1.5M something of the 2.0M Switches shipped out have been sold. A big thing limiting these sales is the fact that stores haven't been restocked yet, or at least the Walmart and GameStop here haven't. You can not like the system, and maybe you really do feel this thing will bomb, but I think you're letting your personal opinion prevent you from making an accurate assessment of how this will do. It's far from being guaranteed a success, but WiiU 2? Definitely not.3gengames wrote:and still die because of no support.
They do now... Again, why it's not WiiU 2.tokumaru wrote:Nintendo surely knows how to create hype
Re: Nintendo switch gets hacked with webkit exploit
A corporation will actively let money-making opportunities pass it by in favor of other money-making opportunities with a greater return on investment. This is why console makers have until very recently been unkind to micro-ISVs, because console makers thought they could get a better ROI out of AAA developers.Espozo wrote:Assuming corporations will actively let money-making opportunities pass them by?3gengames wrote:and still die because of no support.
No Wii U2? There goes my hope for a game about How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. (PROTIP: Cut wires 1, 2, 3, 14.)Espozo wrote:Again, why it's not WiiU 2.

Your comment seems to imply that they're changing their minds. I wonder why; everyone just seems so happy now with all the major game developers...tepples wrote:This is why console makers have until very recently been unkind to micro-ISVs, because console makers thought they could get a better ROI out of AAA developers.

Compare the Bob's Game stunt of 2009 to Nintendo drastically opening up its developer approval process in July 2016.Espozo wrote:Your comment seems to imply that they're changing their minds.tepples wrote:This is why console makers have until very recently been unkind to micro-ISVs, because console makers thought they could get a better ROI out of AAA developers.
